Archiving timeline photos removes them from external library folder

A question to check my understanding: I have a "normal" album - upload a photo to it and it then appears in the library and on the main timeline. I go to timeline and archive that photo. It now appears in the album and the archive but not the timeline. I have an external library configured. I scan it. All the photos are visible in the folder tree and the main timeline. I go to timeline and archive all those pictures. They disappear from the timeline. BUT if I look in the folder view, I can walk the tree structure but none of the pictures are visible. I then scan the external lib - no pictures in timeline and now the folder view is not visible.
If I un-archive the photos - they go back to timeline and the folder view is restored... My confusion is that the behaviour seems inconsistent between album and external. In all cases, the photo is in the archive so "visible" to Immich but it cannot be viewed via the external folder view. Is this as designed? I ask because I can't see an explanation in the docs. I like having the clean/empty default view on the main screen with just album/folders on the sidebar. I can work it as it is but the inconsistency makes me itch 🙂

I do think this is probably just a current limitation, could open a feature request to show archived within the folder view

I have met the same problem and found when I archive pictures for the external library. The process of archiving is completely regular but I cannot find them in Archive folder and also those have been removed (I mean the original pictures) from the folder on NAS. But I can see it in my Immich Trash.:Cryge: @Immich
