Drakensang: Problems with old Windows savegames on Linux
Hello,
I recently switched from Windows to LinuxMint and installed the HeroicGameLauncher without any problems.
The connection with my GOG account also worked smoothly. However, I'm old school and I don't like saving to the cloud.
In other words, my game saves were all on my PC. With Witcher 3, I had no problems using my Windows saves with the HeroicGameLauncher.
Drakensang, on the other hand, is a different story.
I can start Drakensang and basically play it, but unfortunately I can't start the old saves that I made under Windows.
I can select the old saves and it looks as if they are being loaded, but during the loading process HeroicGameLauncher hangs and crashes.
When I load new savegames that I have saved under Linux, everything works fine.
Is there any way to get my old Drakensang savegames to work?
Many thanks in advance!

I wonder if the saves of that game internally point to something that is not available in your game's prefix (like... I don't know, maybe it references a folder that doesn't exist?), it's hard to tell what's the issue cause it sounds really specific for that particular game

First Iβll lead off with this note about Wine-GE
Wine-GE is rather old now (last release is almost a year ago) and thus might not work correctly. Please follow these instructions on using GE-Proton with umu instead:
1. Head to the Wine Manager in Heroic, click the "Proton-GE" tab, and install "Proton-GE-Latest"
2. Enable umu in "Settings" (Heroic sidebar) -> "Advanced" -> "Use UMU as Proton runtime"
Note: For a visual guide, see attached image
3. Head to the settings for your game(s) (icon on game card in library). In the "Wine Version" dropdown, select "Proton - Proton-GE-latest"
4. Rename your Wineprefix (path is shown in game settings), e.g. from
current-name
to current-name_bak
. To clarify: Rename the actual folder on your hard drive, do not change the option in the game settings.
Note: This will make game-specific configuration data (e.g. in-game settings or save files) unavailable. If this is an issue, let us know & we'll help you restore them.

Second, given that this saves into
Documents/
, can you verify that your flatpak permissions still includes this folder: xdg-documents

Thanks a lot! I will check this the next days π (I often don't get to do anything during the week because of work. I might not be able to get back to you until next weekend.)
Yes, that's what I was afraid of, since I had no problems at all with Witcher 3 π€ͺ

I would still switch to GE-Proton anyway

Yes, i will - next weekend π
Heyho,
Today i have successfully completed steps 1 - 4 \o/
And there has already been an improvement! The intro is now displayed and can be canceled if necessary to get into the game faster π
How do I find out if my flatpak permissions includes the folder "xdg-documents"? π«£
Apart from that, I have a new problem: How do I find out where the savegames are stored now? Not in the previous folder: /home/[NAME]/Documents/Drakensang/profiles/default/save
I played Drakensang with the HGL today, saved the game and I just can't find this current file.
But it exists, I could continue playing with it (but I don't really want to π )
Is it now only stored online at GOG? I would like to change that - but where can I change it? Maybe I'm blind, but I can't find a point in the HGL settings or in the game settings where I can set where the savegames should be stored.
Thank you very much again π
AH! Im a stupid one!
I found out where the savegames are stored (very deeply hidden in the folder "prefixes": /home/[NAME]/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/Drakensang/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Drakensang/profiles/default/save)
Then I replaced the βdefaultβ folder at "profiles", but unfortunately the familiar problem is now occurring again: The savegame loads for half an eternity and then crashes at some point or I have to kill the game.
So i think, this is the point: How do I find out if my flatpak permissions includes the folder "xdg-documents"? π«£

Using Proton, the step about flatpak permissions is irrelevant
