immich_server container not starting

Hi, I recently moved my docker stacks from baremetal to VMs and was originally using VirtIOFS for file storage. Immich was working with Virtiofs but after a few hours it would crash as virtiofs would hit a file cap and immich wouldn't be able to load anything else. I just moved everything from virtiofs to NFS and upon starting the immich docker compose file immich_server wouldn't start. If I leave it for a couple hours it does "start" but it doesn't post any logs when i run "docker compose logs". It also takes a couple hours to run "docker compose down". I'm not really sure where to go from here. Edit: while I was writing this immich_server posted to the logs. It's been attacged in the log file.

Is the postgres data on nfs too?

Yes

Databases on network mounts are never a good idea
For this reason, the Postgres database (DB_DATA_LOCATION) should ideally use local SSD storage, and never a network share of any kind.

aw man. I wish there was a way to just pass through directories directly to my VMs. :/ Alright, I'll figure something out

The database will be really small, you can easily just have that stored on the VM

Alright, I'll move it over and give it a go then. Thank you for your help

It looks like I'm still getting some sort of database error after moving the postgres folder locally to the VM. (I also updated the .env file to reflect the new directory)

Using it over a network mount most likely corrupted the database, so using the postgres folder won't work either You need a fresh postgres folder, and then restore from a backup if you want to

I do want to mention this backup is from May 2024, so it's a bit older than I thought it was. Hold on I found a backup from last month

Oh, I had no idea Immich did it's own postgres backups. Let me give that a shot Looks like we're good now! I was able to log in on the web and through the app! 🙂 Thank you all so much
