Multiplayer issue after leaving and trying to re-join a world.
I know I have another post I just made however this is a totally different issue that I will try explain the best I can, I can't find anything about this.
When I try to play with my friend we can create and load into the same world completely fine, we can play for hours without a single disconnected and 0 issues.
However once we try to leave and re-join that same world a warning comes up on the world saying "14 new mods" despite not downloading anymore mods, and no mods being updated (see 2 attached screenshots).
Once we try to load back into the world it works fine up until randomly my friend will be disconnected and it will say "Backing up player file" infinitely and won't load him back him.
He can then load back into the game, but this will happen maybe 10-15 minutes later.
Im not really sure what the issue could be as once we create the world and load in for the first time this doesn't happen and it can work completely fine for hours.

I have tried searching around online for this issue as I normally do, but this is the only Reddit thread I could find about it
https://www.reddit.com/r/Terraria/comments/1j1qg2s/backing_up_player_file_friend_keeps_getting/
I have also turned off steam cloud as i've seen suggested, and this world is being hosted through the "Host & Play" option on Steam.

Wondering if anyone else has found anymore information about this, as im really struggling to find anything.
All I can think of is maybe not using those 14 mods?
That warning suggests that the world isn't saving correctly. When you load back into the world, are modded tile changes made last session still present, or did they revert?
If the last time you started the server you replicated this issue, can you post the server.log file?

If the information in the pinned thread does not solve your issue, please post all log files by dragging and dropping them into this chat. In Steam right click on tModLoader in the library, then hover over Manage and click on Browse local files. In the folder that appears find tModLoader-Logs and open that folder. Inside that folder are the logs files. Select them all except the Old folder and drag them into this chat. If you need a visual guide to this process watch this: https://github.com/tModLoader/tModLoader/assets/4522492/3f4efa43-753f-4733-b630-ba85e711340c
This says how to find that file ^

Yeah I can replicate this issue
Everything seemlingly saves completely fine
No save progress seems to be lost
Interestingly in singleplayer this does not happen
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
@jopojelly I created a new world, sat in it for maybe a minute and then saved and exited

Can confirm the same issue happened again where it said "14 new mods" and now just like the other world its having issues when trying to load in
Im also going to assume my friend will also disconnect as well, however I havent tested this
But I assume its related to saving like you said
If you need anything else im happy to provide it, also no rush to respond.
Im off to bed soon anyways so no rush at all
Hm, not seeing any actual errors in the logs
It doesn't have you redownload any mods, right?
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
I havent changed my mod list at all from creating the world to loading back in
Nothing at all
I literally created the world, loaded in, saved and exited
I think you might need to narrow down this issue further. Try with just 1 mod that is very simple. That ImproveGame mod seems to be making a lot of internal changes that might be related
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
Will do
1 sec
It's possible the X new mods feature is just bugged for some reason with host and play, I can test that tomorrow when I'm working again
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
Tested it only with the "Quality of Terraria" mod and its completely fine
I will try enable High FPS Support with it which was one of the 14 mods in the list
See if it labels it as a new mod
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
@jopojelly Tried what I did above and it labelled "HighFPSSupport" as a new mod still
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
These logs should show the new test server
All I had enabled was "Quality of Terraria" and "High FPS Support"
It worked fine when I only had "Quality of Terraria" enabled
I'll see if I enabled High FPS Support with a mod like Calamity to see if it does the same thing, if it doesnt im going to say maybe Quality of Terraria is the issue?
Weird it still does it when I have Calamity and High FPS Support enabled, so it seems to be something else?
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
Even when I make a new world and ONLY have HighFPSSupport enabled it does it.

optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
Im guessing it would be the same no matter which 14 of these mods I use even if they are the only ones I have enabled

can you post the .twld?
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
Does this mean the log files I did earlier?
No,
C:\Users\jacko\Documents\My Games\Terraria\tModLoader\Worlds\test_world.twld
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
Ah I see will do 1 second
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
This should be it
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
This is the one with only HighFPSSupport enabled
I believe
But still experienced the issue of "New Mod" right after leaving
Hm, this is showing 0 mods. This is where the game stores the data for "last used mods"

optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
That is... weird?
I mean I definitely had HighFPSSupport enabled
100%
And I created it with the mod enabled
does the modified by date on the file match the time of the .wld file?
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
You mean this?
yeah
I can't look at the modified date, you'll have to look at that
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago

optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
Seems to match
Yeah, that looks right
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
And I almost 100% had the mod enabled, I can even do it again
I'm testing the feature right now myself by generating a world with a mod enabled.
So, just to be clear, you enabled more mods, saw the notification, went in and then out of the world in single player, then went to the world select menu and it still says there are new mods?
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
It works totally fine in singleplayer
It doesnt do it at all
I created the world and loaded into the world as a multiplayer world
I created a new character with "HighFPSSupport" enabled, created a new world, loaded in and waited for a minute or so, saved and exited
And then when I go to the world again it says "New Mods" which im guessing is also linked to my friends disconnecting issue once we both leave and try rejoin the same world
Hm. I'll try that. Right now I'm not really thinking this is related to the disconnecting issue though. This mod tracking feature doesn't really involve anything else, and your friend isn't being forced to reload mods when connecting.
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
Hm I just cant really think of any reason it could be, it just gets stuck on "backing up player file"
And its only once we leave the game and reload
Upon creating the world and joining for the first time without leaving, we an play with hours with no disconnects or anything
He can even leave and rejoin himself without any issues, its only once I leave and save, then reload the world for us both to play
He can also join the world fine as well, it just disconnects him into "backing up player file" maybe every 10 minutes give or take?
And im not technical enough with tmodloader to know what this could be and I cant find anything online but that one reddit thread
I am completely confused
Yeah, as far as I can tell the disconnect might just be normal networking issues, but it should send him back to the main menu. Have you sent his client.log when he was disconnected yet?
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
Hm just weird as we have played tonnes of tmodloader together with absolutely no issues, we both have pretty stable internet and we live like next door pretty much lol
I havent sent his client log, but I can get that to you tomorrow
As hes not around right now
Just weird for both these issues to crop up at the same time despite playing hours and hours of calamity together in the past
Yeah, it is weird. The recent tModLoader changes don't look suspect to me. It's possible a mod you are using has updated recently, which could be related.
Technically if things started this month, you could try downgrading tModLoader to v2024.12 (It's v2025.01 since March 1st.). The other option is to try to narrow down the issue to a mod by disabling half and testing, then repeating until you figure it out, but that takes a while.
optimistic-goldOP•6mo ago
Im just confused why its those 14 mods though
I might try disabling them all and then playing
See if it is related or not
