Syncing of assets (photos/videos) and DB backups to a network share?
I'm currently testing out Immich running on a miniPC running Umbrel OS which makes the hosting and updates a no brainer.
I plan to install a hard drive large enough to store all my photos and videos so everything is local.
HOWEVER : I need a way to easily sync the assets and also the DB backups to my NAS shared folder on a nightly basis.
Does anyone have any advice on how to do this bearing in mind I'm running Umbrel OS so might not have the skills or flexibility to modify docker details and run scripts...

- Logs from all the containers and their status (see above).
- All the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far.
- Any recent changes you've made to Immich or your system.
- Details about your system (both software/OS and hardware).
- Details about your storage (filesystems, type of disks, output of commands like fdisk -l
and df -h
).
- The version of the Immich server, mobile app, and other relevant pieces.
- Any other information that you think might be relevant.

If this ticket can be closed you can use the /close
command, and re-open it later if needed.I don't think a sync is really what you want, look for a proper backup tool instead
So when people say "x is not a backup tool" what they are actually saying is "you probably don't actually want a single point in time copy of your data", which is what that tool is doing.
And that "backup tools" exist today that:
- can run on a schedule
- only copy new/changed data (incremental)
keep track of changes over time in the backup, with the option to restore to a previous version
This gives you the ability to recover a file that was deleted some time ago, restore to a point prior to data corruption, etc., all while being space efficient (similar blocks are deduplicated)
Popular backup tools are restic and borg.
My NAS has regular snapshots and also nightly off-site backups so the data would be thoroughly backed up.
