Can't connect to my server the usual way.

I could connect to my server (self hosted) either locally (hostname.local) or through the internet (my public IP). Why after turning on a VPN and back off, only the latter method of connecting works?

i know some routers won't let you connect to yourself for security reasons. that could be it.

Is there a firewall in the way on your local network?

Some routers may not resolve local domains Try LAN ip instead

Local WAN addresses due to hairpin NAT

That’s possible, but some routers can handle that no problem Depends on what op is using and how it’s configured I guess Hairpin does not cause a problem all the time
