downward force

Greetings, I'm curious to know what causes objects to go down... like what causes the downward acceleration when objects fall?

There is no cause but it's all about density. It's all dependent upon the medium something is in like air or water. A piece of wood in air will go down. A piece of wood in the water will go up. It's all about the object seeking equilibrium based on density of it and the medium it's in.
