Concentration terms

pretty washed up so can someone explain what this a-x breaking into some-x and another x means? Is this some sort of concentration?

@Ñeet basically we have just found out that if (x) moles of A will react then how many moles of B C and D will be formed since intially we started out with (a) moles of A and (x) moles outta that reacted while reaching Equilibrium (a-x) moles of A would be leftover
