- Your docker-compose.yml and .env files.
- Logs from all the containers and their status (see above).
- All the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far.
- Any recent changes you've made to Immich or your system.
- Details about your system (both software/OS and hardware).
- Details about your storage (filesystems, type of disks, output of commands like fdisk -l
and df -h
).
- The version of the Immich server, mobile app, and other relevant pieces.
- Any other information that you think might be relevant.
Please paste files and logs with proper code formatting, and especially avoid blurry screenshots.
Without the right information we can't work out what the problem is. Help us help you ;)

The permissions of your database folder are broken or your database is corrupt
I am not a linux person and am very new to this
What do I do? Uninstall the stack completely?
Has this suddenly stopped working or is this a fresh install?
Suddenly
What operating system are you on and where is the database stored? What folder and disk
its on a snyology NAS
And the docker is running on the NAS?
Yes. moment I will pull the folder structure
Possibly the NAS has some file permission fixer / mover that is breaking the Postgres permissions. We see this at times

It's the marius hosting tutorial :monakS:
yes.
lol
is it fixable? I assume that the photos are still fine
?
The photos should be there but presumably you have backups right?
Marius had a bad reputation here because he does a lot of stuff wrong/strange. so we really donβt usually know how to help
not yet. I just moved everything
Uh, well first priority before fixing immich should be backing up the origjnals
I don't mind starting over
agreed
Ok, so you have other copies?
if i can find the photos, I can put them somewhere for now
no, I just imported from folders.
The photos are in upload/upload and upload/library
let me see what happend
Right but β¦ do you have those original folders lol
I'm going to look
I may have deleted them to save space. let me look
It looks like it
So when people say "x is not a backup tool" what they are actually saying is "you probably don't actually want a single point in time copy of your data", which is what that tool is doing.
And that "backup tools" exist today that:
- can run on a schedule
- only copy new/changed data (incremental)
keep track of changes over time in the backup, with the option to restore to a previous version
This gives you the ability to recover a file that was deleted some time ago, restore to a point prior to data corruption, etc., all while being space efficient (similar blocks are deduplicated)
Popular backup tools are restic and borg.

You should setup backups of your precious memories before you try anything else
backup to another server?
π¦ I only have one synology at the moment (poor)
What would you do if your house floods..?
be homeless.
not in a good position at the moment.
Iβm sorry. the concern here is working on the immich install can lead to more risk of losing your photos
If this is the ONLY copy you have it is dangerous to work on it in any way
I can see if I have an external HD that is big enough to hold them all
That would be a good idea
I just want to throw the disclaimer in here that gphotos is usually cheaper. You won't save money with self hosting Immich
You can also check in the upload/backups folder, do you have any files in that folder? That would be database backups, not the photos
this isn't about saving money. π
I want off google and big corporate.
I want privacy
That's fair :)
I am the only one who will see the photos. I don't have any friends who care.
its just for me.
so let me keep this thread open and hunt around for some old HDs
I will return once I have put the photos on the external HD
I will do this as well.
Thank you for not being mean to me.
Still working on this. I had to order a cable I didn't have for the external HDs
This is a good time for me to ask a question and get ahead of something since I have a moment to still organize since I assume we're going to blow away the previous install. I do have some logic the the folders that have my photos. When I reimport, does it make sense to reimport as a library link or whatever so I can keep some of the structure as albums when I redo this?
that's upto you. I did that initially but eventually ended up uploading everything to immich so it was all on the internal storage. This way the storage template applies to all of my media and I don't have artifacts here and there
then you made albums later or you just uploaded all your photos in one lump?
i.e. they are organized currently into folders that I made... vacations, 2017, etc.
but you're saying just dump em all in?
there are tools that can upload a folder as an album, I'm not sure if the immich-cli supports this off the top of my head, I do know that immich-go does, and there are also various github scripts that will accomplish similar
Okay, I thnk I have all my photos now. What do I need to copy from the current immich mess so I can reinstall and do it correctly?
(and make sure I didn't lose anything.... I'm fine with reimproting everything and stuff)
beep beep! π
