Make sure you updated the game before launching SMM. If your game is up to date, you have both U8 and 1.0 installed in the same folder at once, and SMM is detecting the U8 version.
To fix this, uninstall the game, delete the game install dir if it still exists (this is NOT the AppData folder, but the location where you installed the game), then reinstall the game, and reopen SMM.
If reinstalling the game takes too long for you, a quicker fix is to delete the
<game install dir>\Engine\Binaries\Win64\FactoryGame-Win64-Shipping.version
file, though this is not meant to be a permanent solution, as having the game installed twice in the same directory can cause issues later.Key Details for SMMDebug-2025-04-27-17-10-09.zip
i get this every time i try to download or update a mod. does this maybe have to do with the launcher not differentiating steam and epic installations?
have you followed the directions the bot is suggesting to clean up your install?
it is unrelated to steam/epic differentiation
remember it will try to keep all installs using a profile in sync though, so if any one of those installs is broken, it will error
i dont know how i could have the game installed twice using steam
as a consequence of trying to play old versions of the game (update 8) or some other problem with your install
i never tried that though
and i just verified the game too. still the issue persists
the bot message does not say to verify files. this problem is usually caused by files that should not be there still being there, which is why verifying doesn't fix it, but a folder delete and reinstall does
as i suspected it in fact WAS the epic games installation

uninstalled the epic installation that wasnt updated and now i dont have an error anymore
glad you got it working, seems this was the cause then - profile changes are applied to all installs using the profile
the launcher detected the game installation of epic games although i had the steam install selected
maybe thats a bug in the launcher? when i have steam selected it should not need the epic games satisfactorygame.exe
last time you used the epic install it was using the same profile as your steam install
profile changes are applied to all installs using the profile
perhaps the error messages could be made more clear to explain multiple installs are being modified and one of them failed
yeah. maybe a more clear message could have resolved my issue without me having to post here
for the time being, I improved the bot message

The Mod Manager is reporting an error because it's trying to modify and outdated (Update 8) copy of the game. This could be caused by two things:
1. One of the installs connected to your Profile you have selected is still running Update 8. To fix this, either uninstall it, update it, or switch to a new Mod Manager profile
2. You have leftover files in your install directory from downgrading to play Update 8. To fix this, uninstall the game (verify files won't fix this!), delete the game install directory if it still exists (this is NOT the AppData folder, but the location where you installed the game), then reinstall the game, and reopen SMM.
