is the game worth buying?
like honestly, I've played once before on my ps4, and i've recently gotten a pc, i played around 2-3 years ago, i really wanna know if the game is worth the purchase, (im planning on buying both games.)

Bugs and glitches ruin the experience
and there's some sort of memory leak going on
I've had this game on 4 systems
since it was in Early Access
even played it yesterday
the same problems plague the experience. The worst of all is this weird LOD issue
it happens if you play too much
around the 6 hour mark during the same play session, fps drops massively
until you restart the game
going from 140 average fps to 47
happens on my RX 7800XT, RX 7600, and RX 5700
My assumption is that after exploring a major part of the map in the same session, the game fails to downgrade LODs
and performance stalls massively
You can draw your own conclusion from this
also, lack of world generation optimizations is very noticeable
takes 40 seconds to start a new game on an NVME gen 4 drive
or even load into a save file
going from Spiderman 2 that loads the entire map in 3 seconds from when you click the continue or load button is crazy
and CPU optimization is terrible
had to upgrade my 13400f
used to bottleneck past 76 fps
I'm on a 13900k right now
bottlenecks after 122 fps
I'm guessing it's rather a limitation of Unity
the devs shouldn't have ever made an open world in Unity
should have transitioned the entire game to Unreal Engine 4
game has been working and running perfectly fine for me, def havent been experiencing what ur experiencing seemingly rn
it sounds like some kind of weird issue beyond optimization/engine limitation
Are you sure about it. Because I thought it was a user error from my part for 2 years
then noticed it happens in all benchmarking videos
although, I can't say they are credible sources
no big youtuber has benchmarked the game
could u link the vids? ik there had been some issues in the past but overall the devs have cracked down pretty hard on optimization and fixes like that afaik, esp the latest patch they released
i think it takes me around 20-30 secs to load and start a game as well. u have the game installed on an SSD, right?
sure
nvme gen 4
PCIe gen 4
and the motherboard is PCIe gen 4
even that is terrible
no direct storage?
so that should be good
But load times are way off
i dont think 20-30 seconds is a long wait at all, im also speakin as someone that def isnt running the best rig too
hold on, I'm checking game files
no
as in looking through
yup
can't find direct storage
so nvmes are useless for this game
there is no ds dll file
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9N7wdtxy7p8
this is probably the most credible source as of right now
the other benchmarking videos are from no names
but it's from 2 years ago
im unfortunately pretty limited in tech knowledge so i can only be of so much help, but it sounds like ur definitely dealing with a weird/specific issue, not a general issue
but I'm confused as to how it's the same story in benchmarking videos
ye thatd be like initial release of the game in early access, so itd def be outdated
if you watch the video I sent, the frame time graph is dead stuttery
due to a CPU bottleneck with a 13600k
sadly im rly not too sure what to make of it all in ur case, this game has had some significant performance issues in the past (such as uncapped framerate in the pause menu spiking cpu usage iirc lol) and certainly struggled with optimization, but its seen a lot of work in addressing both. i wish my tech knowledge was a bit greater so i could help a bit more but sadly this might be all i can leave u with, hopefully someone more knowledgeable may be able to add smthn and help out. could also be worth potentially trying to reach the devs about, either by steam discussion or their support email and see if u can get a response directly from them
also to answer this post, speaking gameplaywise its pre cool and id say its worth the time if ur pc is up for it (definitely some major differences from the first game in how it plays, but still fun in its own ways). you could wait for the summer sale and catch both games at a significant discount
The game is generally not well optimized, most likely just due to lack of experience with bigger maps and optimizations.
The systems they created also put quite a strain on any cpu, as these all run on cpu threads.
The horrors of small teams going from small map to big map.
I personally dont mind the lower fps, it works well enough for me at least, but i also dont have many long enough play sessions to run into the issues you described. So i cannot really comment on those.
Loading times have always been pretty long and only marginally improved over time, i am not very experienced in loading systems with unity so i also cannot really comment on what they did right or wrong, but i would assume its mostly due to the very high amount of objects we have in the scene.
Which pretty much all need to be loaded to just show the intro cutscene due to the height.
So yes, they could still improve a lot of things regarding performance, but i personally cut them some slack as it works generally well enough, even on older systems.
But if you are interested into diving deeper into those issues a seperate post would be great, this one is more about the general gameplay
While I do like the game, None of the issues I’m experiencing have been fixed since early access
So idk if they ever will be
The fps drop problem after hours of playing the game can be achieved faster if you play multiplayer
As the host will be getting lower performance than the other clients that join
Outside of these issues, I didn’t encounter any other problems
Besides cannibal camps spawning inside my home base
Several times during the early access updates
But they’ve stopped adding cannibal camps to the map
So it’s long gone
