ThunderGold Wifi Dongle not recognised or not working on linux
Hello, I recently installed bazzite on my machine while my bluetooth dongle does work, my wifi dongle isn't recognised at all. While I do know it says windows only on the website, I was hoping someone could help me out still and see if there's still a work around for like drivers or something to make them work? Thanks.
Btw, I can't connect with ethernet cuz my pc is too far from the router, however I am able to use my phone for usb tethering.
I don't know the name of the adapter either, but this is it:

and ip link
does it recognize your wifi dongle there?don't think so
what should I do?
Buy a proper PCIe WiFi card with an Intel NIC.
Any good suggestion?
Literally just buy any of them that have an Intel AX210
Alright
You can just buy an M.2 wifi PCIe card
and buy your own chip as well
Well i dont think i can get a m.2 since my motherboard only has 1 m.2 slot being used by my ssd
But a pcie card yeah
Where do you live?
Country
Netherlands
Oh Nederlands, lekker makkelijk 😛

Intel chip

Ook Intel chip
They should all work fine
Added benefit of these is that it has BT included from the same Intel chip so they should also all work fine in Linux
Cheapest one is the Cudy one for sure, and on that one you can easily replace the M.2 chip as well
I see thanks
Wdym replace the m.2 chip btw?
well that Cudy thing is just an M.2 wifi+bt adapter card with the chip itself screwed on
the chip you see that's just an intel ax210 m.2 card
😛
Ohh but dont i need a m.2 slot to use it?
To give a better explanation.
M.2 is simply a connector. You can put a couple of different things down an M.2 connector. Traditionally, the main things that M.2 is used for are PCIe, NVMe, and SATA
PCIe is the standard used for connecting most devices that need to talk with the CPU and need a lot of bandwidth (GPUs, Network Cards, Sound Cards, etc.)
The little Cudy card, is simply an M.2 to PCIe Slot card that is keyed for an M.2 WiFi Module. You could easily replace the WiFi Module inside the Cudy card when the one it comes with becomes outdated or dies.
This ^
So then its possible to use my ssd and the WiFi card at the same time?
Yes, because this adapter doesn't go into an M.2 slot. It goes into a PCie x1 Slot. It's more akin to a GPU than it is a M.2 SSD. You slot it into one of the slots below your GPU, and you then have a more reliable Wifi connection and a card that actually functions on Linux.
Ahh okay
You do just have a normal desktop right?
Yeah
Then that pcie card will work fine. Its not too hard to install
