Multiple elgato facecams overloading my wife’s pc
My wife is going to start streaming and hosting some live seminars, and she has 4 cameras. They’re all Elgato Facecams Mk2. But if I try to plug all 4 of them in, I get warnings about overloading the usb interface. Even if I use a powered USB hub I can’t get all 4 working. Is this a problem with the PC itself or do I just need a better hub? I’m using this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0C84G7YJY?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Of course you’re getting warnings when using a USB hub - you’re pushing 4x the bandwidth through a single port/chipset’s bandwidth only rated for one of them
Use USB tree view and try to find which USB ports are on different chipsets to space them apart.
Oh, that makes sense 🤣
Get a pcie usb card
Then throw 2 on it, and 2 on the other usb ports on pc
Sonnet makes really good ones
Ok thanks!
Just wanted to circle back to this for future reference. Like Addie said, I solved the issue with usb tree view and distributing the cameras differently. However after also adding a lav mic, I was just pushing the bandwidth past its limit no matter what config I tried, so I solved it by just turning on the setting to deactivate each camera when not in use. That works fine for now.
I should add, the only reason I’m not just installing a new pcie usb is because she was using an all-in-one when I asked the question, and she’s using a laptop right now. We’ll likely eventually upgrade to a desktop, and at that point if needed I’d just add a new usb card like yall said
Ah yeah both are rough to use multiple capture devices on
If it has thunderbolt or usb4 can get a hub for that which COULD work bandwidth wise but may still have issues
Yeah it does have thunderbolt, I was able to get 3 cams on that simultaneously actually, then I have the 4th cam on the USB right next to it. Then on the other side of the laptop I’ve got a hub for the mouse, mic, and a streamdeck
It’s possible if I put 2 cams on thunderbolt and 2 on the USB next to it i wouldn’t have to deactivate the cams
Basically 2 cams are able to run at a time and once a third kicks in it doesn’t like that lol
But we never need more than 2 simultaneously so it’s okay
Update, we cracked and just bought a pc desktop that’s completely overkill but it’s so much better lol. I’m installing an extra pcie usb card tonight as well
Okay I need help again
I installed a pcie usb card, but we're still struggling to connect our 4 cameras.
I thought I'd be able to plug 2 cameras into the new pcie card, but it can't handle more than 1. Here is what I bought, maybe I should've got something with more ports: https://a.co/d/5jQ8wUL

Maybe I should've gone with sonnet like Addie said
I'm thinking this might be a better option: https://www.sonnettech.com/product/allegro-pro-usb31-pcie.html
I'm not knowledgable about this subject -- do you think it's reasonable that I should be able to plug 2 elgato facecam's to this?
It says it has 2 controllers for the 4 ports, so i think if i put them on separate controllers it should be fine
yeah most liklely 1 on A and 1 on C
