Bazzite not installing
Hiya guys, when I'm installing bazzite, I'm getting this error:- SQUASHFS error:- failed to read block 0x9223ac3d-5
Any help would be appreciated
I am installing the latest iso to my desktop PC... (which is the latest bazzite stable release)
After switching to the drive bazzite is installed on, I get a whole new thing... image attached below!

When are you getting the "SQUASHFS error:- failed to read block 0x9223ac3d-5" error? That sounds a little like corruption in the ISO file. Have you tried using the torrent for the ISO it has built in checksums
Uhh, after install, that is from the torrent iso bud
I've tried running the test and install AND just plain install bazzite
This is a brand new USB stick too, running ventoy
Ah ok. And which bazzite image are you installing?
The stable bazzite deck iso from the website
ok so latest bazzite desktop essentially. Let me check if there is an issue with the ISO
There haven't been any reports like yours though, but still working checking
Sure thing, I've been trying to get this installed for about a week, even my friend said it shouldn't be this much of an issue haha
I'm also, installing to an nvme, should I try just installing to my hdd instead? Or is nvme good?
Installing an a HHD would be really bad. an nvme install is perfect or on an ssd drive
Right okay, would it be advised to try using rufus?
You could try Rufus or Fedora media writer if Ventoy gives you trouble.
Gotcha, are there any options with rufus I need to check/uncheck when setting up the iso?
And should I have GPT or MBR partition for it??
Writing in DD as I've read that gains best results!
Go with these, you want GPT and FAT32

DD it cool if you get the command right, if you get it wrong you break stuff very badly
Let's try rufus first and see if you end up with a better install
If that fails maybe right Fedora Media Writer (it does work on Windows)
Right, okay bud
Good luck š¤
Lemme see if I can find the command for DD and hope it works!
Oh rufus gave me the option to flash bazzite to the drive as a DD iso!
I forgot it had that option.
When it's done close Rufus and eject the drive safely for best results else it will sometimes not write the last part of the iso which is in the cache.
Right, okay hopefully this installs... I'm wanting to use bazzite as my main os as windows just gives me shit all the time...
If that fails, I'd install on an SSD drive (with an enclosure) to test if you like it or not. Sometimes just having windows on the same disk causes issues š
I had cachyos I left the microsoft club a couple weeks ago... my friend told me bazzite was alot better than cachyos haha...
Having windows installed anywhere causes issues imo! š¤£š¤£
I've heard good things about cachyos. Nobara is good too. There plenty of alternatives.
I was going to build my own, but everyone else is doing what I wanted to do with my Linux distribution.. I mean, cachyos is good... I'm ngl buuuuut it requires a lil too much terminal work š
Right, installing bazzite-deck 41
Me too, testing the ISO

Like the setup works... and it's real nice to look at haha but I can't game during the setup š¤£
I pull the USB once install finishes right?
Well reboot then pull š
You can usually just leave it in. unless it boots the USB again
Yeah USB always boots again š¤£
I'd rather accidently have the ISO boot again than have it miss the last step somehow in the install
I don't think it does anything special when you click reboot though
What does the last step look like haha? I get to the bit where it says the setups complete and tells me to reboot, then I reboot, take out the USB and boom screen flooded with that error...
But this is the Anaconda installer... so anything is possible
So, I reboot, change drive to the bazzite one, and then bazzite loads into emergency with that text in the image...
double checking this is the name of the ISO right? "bazzite-stable-amd64.iso"
That's the one!
Setups taking longer this time around... getting my hopes up!
Okay, my setup is complete...
Rebooted, I've taken the media out to stop it redoing the setup...
Same error...
SQUASHFS error failed to read block 0x9223ac3d-5
š®āšØ
After reboot, says its booting to bazzite... I get the lovely bazzite logo at the bottom and then it boots to emergency..
If you enter your BIOS, see if you can find a BOOT efi file option and try and boot EFI/Fedora/Grubx64.efi and see if that works
Also are you doing anything special in the installer? Are you just using automatic partitioning?
In the installer? Im doing auto partitioning
And no dual boot on that drive? so full disk Bazzite?
Exactly
Super weird, that's supposed to be the easy install
Haha been at it a week on and off
Ok and secure boot off? Fast boot off? CSM/Legacy mode disabled?
Good question
Lemme check rq
CSM/UFEI is set to ufei can't seem to find secure boot or fast boot in my bios
Secure boot disabled
What bios is it?
Ok it's not the ISO

Msi click bios 5
Do you have an different drive (not the HDD) that you can try installing to that?
Might be worth eliminating a weird issue with the nvme drive
Uhhh I got a 240gb ssd
Which I usually run windows on.. just nvme reads and writes quicker haha
Other than that I got 16tb of hdds
Any modern Linux install on a HDD is going to be a bad experience
Right, I mean it'll fit on a 240gb right?
One of my Bazzite testing boxes is a 120GB external SSD drive. So yup that will be more than enough
Perfect, I'll give it a try, if it doesn't work, I'll just sit on cachyos... š¤£š¤£
Kinda like the whole game mode/desktop mode thing!
Looks clean af
Just tested my nvme with bazzite installed on it with my bios self test app... no errors found.... š¤£š¤£
One other thing, in your BIOS, is SATA mode set to AHCI?

I think ChimeraOS also does the whole gamemode thing https://chimeraos.org
Sata mode is AHCI
Actually nevermind, cachyos wouldn't have worked if any of those were wrong...
If that fails, you could try this https://wiki.cachyos.org/installation/installation_handheld/ since you have had much better luck with cachyos
Yeah I can install cachyos, I still have the iso for it, so I'll just rewrite my USB with cachyos
Would that work on my pc? The handheld edition?
Absolute legend thank you! š„°š„°š„°
If this doesn't work I'll do the HH edition!
I would imagine that it would. Bazzite (for everyone other than you apparently š
) and ChimeraOS both work on a laptop if you want a console like experience
So I'd imagine that CachyOS would be the same
There is also Nobara handheld edition
Okay bazzite does NOT like my pc....

You can try this: install Fedora Kinoite and rebase to Bazzite. Then you can see if Bazzite doesn't like your pc or if all of Fedora doesn't like your pc. I have a video guide for doing that that I did a while ago if you want to try that https://youtu.be/0NKEfVvdiOs
Buzzing thank you!
Cachyos handheld is installing perfectly so far
Cool. Hope the handheld version works well
Uhhh does the install for the cachyos handheld go the same way and the desktop edition?
Haven't tried it yet, they have docs for it here https://wiki.cachyos.org/installation/installation_handheld/
I wonder if I can flash my phone with cachyos
My contract is up at the end of may...
Or even flash it with bazzite...
Bazzite doesn't have ARM images sadly, so no that wouldn't work on a phone
Gaaaad dang it!
Think I figured the issue
Even though on the website I'm downloading for a desktop PC... the iso the website is giving me is this

Unless that iso is used for desktop too?
That one has gamemode aka SteamOS mode and desktop mode
Gotcha
So it is the right one then š
I'm out of ideas. Hope cachyos handheld works
Me too bud!
Thanks for the help!
You are welcome š
