Multiple games freeze after 2-5 minutes then system restarts
Specs: Ryzen 5 7600x / 5700xt / 32GB Corsair DDR5-6000 / 512GB NVME
Issue: Installed Bazzite on SSD and wiped Windows in process. Ran system update, rebooted and when I run games (Elden Ring, Zombieville USA 3D) they play great for a few minutes, freeze and then the system reboots. Log attached.

Lookin through now. give us a bit.
two questions for random reasons: are you using a controller, and are you trying to use gamescope
Yes to both. Dualsense edge wireless over BT and performance monitor level 3
is this a desktop image?
bazzite-deck-stable-amd64.iso
and that image is being used on a mobile pc right?
… no a desktop
dont feel bad rn
is there a reason for that?
(there are totally valid reasons)
The only defense I have is that I did the 3 drop downs and clicked the download…
Did I install a handheld specific version?
ok so ill tell you what ive seen from the log, keep in mind im not a dev, and im learning when i can
also yea kinda
lol
so

kernel taint which means nothing: no issue no problem
Input remapper is failing for reasons unknown to me ( exit codes 2 & 5, which im unsure what mean. needs more research)
and gamescope freaking out
I clicked the first one under new users
my recommendation: rebase into a desktop image to see if the problem still exists
do this?

hold off for a bit lol
let me make sure of a few things before we full send
sounds good. i'm not losing anything so its nbd to rebase
ok so you should be on the correct image
im just reading it wrong
you can still try to rebase to see if the problem persists, but this really wont do much if you havent changed anything
two things first:
try playing the game without the input remapper (so just dont use a controller for a bit testing)
and dont use gamescope
see if either/both of those cause the issue to change at all
youre games launch options should be clear/empty
ok sounds good and they are
gimme a few
fire and report back 😄
ok i also see bluetooth errors as well. i very well could be wrong, but this may be your controller freaking out causing hard faults. lets hope not.
I’ll turn bt off too
as long as the controller isnt connected you should be fine
as in you dont need to fully disable bluetooth on your pc
Ok still happening. Do you want a new log?
yea.
are you using a non-steam input remapper?
no, just regular steam input
the only thing i've done is install bazzite, update it, download a couple games and try them
rgr rgr
going through new list
oooh driver fault
thats different
radv/amdgpu: The CS has been cancelled because the context is lost. This context is innocent.
[gamescope] [Error] vulkan: vk.QueueSubmit(...) failed! (VkResult: -4)
ok im gonna be real
are you locked into having gaming mode?
this is the important question that may solve your problemI would like to have it because I did all this for a video about making a steam deck console but if that's the issue I guess I can live without it
gaming mode has issues.
so what im seeing
that im beleiveing to be the issue
Oh this was in desktop mode
is that steam is expecting steamhardware
it happened in both I mean
-deck images install steam with certain commands so it acts like a steamdeck
so itll happen regardless, if you have the -deck image installed, which you do
gooootcha
if you ok with losing gaming mode (at least for testing purposes you can always rebase back at any time)
rpm-ostree rebase ostree-unverified-registry:ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite:stable
Interesting, i'll definitely try it out
its the image for your exact setup, minus gaming mode
one thing i saw in both logs
line 135: /usr/libexec/valve-hardware: No such file or directory
steam is trying to lauch deck specific commands
and it cant
b/c the hardware isnt what it or bazzite expects to be
so it sends a weird powerlimit to your gpu
which im beleiving is causing the hard fault to restart
again, grain of salt, i can and will be wrong at times
(that and the input remapping errors but we already know that even without a controller connected, these persist and are probs harmless)
that gpu fault error is glaring to meit would still have big picture tho correct?
just lose gamescope really?
yea that base steam
yes
and you can set bigpicture mode to start when steam starts up, and set steam in the startup folder, so you can emulate gaming mode
so to speak
goootcha
keep in mind all this gaming mode stuff is still raw af and still being tested
it flat out wont work on nvidia cards
if that gives you some points of comparison
so youre steps are
rebase
>update the image
>install game
>run game
>report back
Yeah I fell down this rabbit hole because I have an NVIDIA laptop and wanted to do a video on bazzite, realized its not worth it on nvidia, built a pc
i use nvidia
and full bazzite no windows
if im being honest, i see no real downside
right but i wanted game mode haha
i feel you
its just new and as more time passes, itll get way better
Still going to make the video and I'll put how much you helped in it if that's cool?
with fifteen THOUSAND mfs in this server and countless maintainers, things will be a process
long as ya blur my name im chill.
Im not associated with Bazzite in any way, and take no credit for any work done to any part of the OS or Ublue
just makin it clear, im just a random fuckin guy who wants to help peeps play games if i can
a very helpful random guy* haha
i'll give desktop version a shot
we've all been alone with problems. no reason that one random person cant change that.
biggest difference in the world for some.
also, if youre gonna make a video over bazzite, couple of website you should mention as much as you can:

Got all that in the doc 🫡
as a longtime linux user/old dude, the documents they have for this OS is the best ive ever seen.
it is rediculously easy to navigate for a person who has no info on linux or how to use it
edited daily, and massive amount of information that im currently using to better help you out (and others obv)
yeah there are a ton of great tutorial videos out there on it too
heck yea
hows progress going?
Had to take a dinner break. Working on it now!
ah bet just checkin in, im still watchin
Ok the desktop version didn’t work either. Ended up installing the SteamOS repair image which works perfect so it must be a driver issue or something on Bazzite’s side. I’ll give it a few updates and come back another time. Thanks for the help
Ill keep my eyes on this thread, if you have any more questions or need more help.
Back on bazzite! Ended up being a bunk gpu
oooooof. that hurts! but hey at least youre on bazzite now!
that's right and it's working great
good frame times/temps?
