can the bazzite be used for normal use? on the computer I mostly program and do graphically more demanding things like video editing and occasionally I play a game but I program more

If you hardly game I'd recommend aurora-dx (https://getaurora.dev/en) or bluefin-dx (https://projectbluefin.io). It comes preinstalled with vscode, docker etc and it has various ujust scripts for installing things like the jetbrains IDEs, davinci resolve etc.
Also it's the same community #🦈bluefin and #💫aurora
For your occasional game just install the Steam flatpak
