Wine not found but installed
Hello,
I have installed Heroic to play some old classic games on my laptop with Ubuntu.
I have installed the wine packages and also proton.
But the launcher doesn't seem to find them.

- Switch to GE-Proton
- Check & un-check "Disable umu" in the "Advanced" tab of the game settings
The root cause here is that you're missing Wine dependencies. You can either install them (not sure how easy that is on Ubuntu nowadays), use umu, or use the Flatpak version of Heroic

Make sure to check and un-check the "Disable umu" option. You want to use umu, but it's actually disabled by default (unless you explicitly enable it; that's a bug in Heroic)

Well you did somewhat make things harder by using Heroic's .deb version; on Flatpak this wouldn't be an issue

This includes Tropico 1 and 2.
I am currently trying Tropico 1.
2 is not starting at the moment. <<but something has to be adjusted in the ini.
Can no longer be purchased individually.
The Reloaded contains 1 and 2

Wine-GE is rather old now (last release is almost a year ago) and thus might not work correctly. Please follow these instructions on using GE-Proton:
1. Head to the Wine Manager in Heroic, click the "Proton-GE" tab, and install "Proton-GE-Latest"
2. Head to the settings for your game(s) (icon on game card in library). In the "Wine Version" dropdown, select "Proton - Proton-GE-latest"
3. Rename your Wineprefix (path is shown in game settings), e.g. from
current-name to current-name_bak. To clarify: Rename the actual folder on your hard drive, do not change the option in the game settings.
Note: This will make game-specific configuration data (e.g. in-game settings or save files) unavailable. If this is an issue, let us know & we'll help you restore them.(you're not using Wine-GE, but the rest of those instructions is still accurate)

that's only important when using wine-ge instead of ge-proton, vkd3d and dxvk are enabled by default with proton

You might want to try adding
WINEDEBUG=+timestamp,+pid,+tid,+seh,+unwind,+threadname,+debugstr,+loaddll,+mscoree to the environment variables (in the game settings) & sending in a new log. Right now, there's nothing obvious in that log (it certainly looks different, but I'm not sure where the issue might be)

I didn't really want to install flatpak separately. Ubuntu does not include flatpack by default. Only Snap.
