General website help

How do I delete a cloudflare website? I have followed the documentation which tells me to pause the website. I have tried to remove the website which has got no where. I have then unlocked the DNS and waited for the period to be over but its been nearly two months. It says when you try and delete it please contact support to get it sorted. Now I was wondering since it is a .co.uk website this was causing issues when you try and delete it. Now I am wondering if I request help will it be able to delete it? I am just stuck in a constant loop via documentation which is quite annoying. The following says 'The zone can not be deleted as the domain is currently registered through cloud flares registar, if you wish to delete the domain registration please contact support with assistance. Now I am wondering if I contact support will they be able to delete the website?

It's not a normal Cloudflare website/zone, it's through Cloudflare Registrar. Try going under Domain Registration -> Manage Domains -> click Manage on the domain -> Configuration tab Delete domain xx

That doesn't sound like the right button, unless it itself is failing on the zone delete

Do you really want to delete it, or do you just want to let it expire so you don't have to pay the domain renewal anymore?

I want to delete it Is the expire window 60 days?

Domains are renewed annually. If you really are in a hurry to delete the domain from your account, you'll need to contact support as the message suggests. May I ask why it's so important to you to remove the domain from your CF account quickly?

Right backstory there was a dispute between an employer and so they were let go. This has been going on for months, We have tried to pause it and remove it or let it expire and so it would not do that. A business needs this website and the team has decide to pursue other means since they are more used to get something else sorted that is not cloudflare and so I am trying to get this sorted for the business. However the question I have to ask if you remove the domain from the account surely the domain would still be active right?

Cloudflare's the registrar for this domain (not just doing dns/cdn), if you delete the domain you'd be (eventually) freeing it for anyone else to buy and use It sounds like you more want to transfer it out so that you can use different dns/non-cloudflare

Yes but we cant delete the domain because it says .co.uk can not be deleted But I am thinking what happens if we unlink it from the account will it auto delete?

wydm unlink it?

Delete it from the account will it work Like delete the account
Chaika
Chaika4w ago
If you were able to delete it from the account, the domain would be gone Just to clarify and make sure you understand, you can use Cloudflare as dns/cdn as normal while having the domain at an external registrar (like namecheap), or you can use Cloudflare Registrar to manage the domain on top of the normal services. In this case, you are using Cloudflare Registrar. If you delete the account or the domain, it will be no longer your domain period

We can't delete the domain though Refer to the screenshot from above
Chaika
Chaika4w ago
If that's absolutely what you want to do, just completely get rid of the domain so that you no longer own it/free it back for anyone to buy, then you should contact support about deleting it

yea, I'm not 100% sure where the uk deletion restriction comes from, looks like other registrars can, but you'll have to contact Registrar support about it. Just wanted to verify you understood deleting it means losing the domain entirely/not just no longer using Cloudflare with it

We dont want cloudfare to be linked with the domain I want the domain to be released by cloudfare
Chaika
Chaika4w ago
released to what? Do you want to use different nameservers/dns with it?
Rasputin
RasputinOP4w ago
I want use a different hosting service But they can't transfer from cloudflare because they dont support it
Chaika
Chaika4w ago
You shouldn't need to change your nameservers/dns to use a different hosting service
Rasputin
RasputinOP4w ago
Right we want to start fresh by using a different services from cloudflare. We do not want to use cloudflare and I refuse to use it
Chaika
Chaika4w ago
Then, you want to transfer the domain to an external registrar (like porkbun, namecheap, etc)
Chaika
Chaika4w ago
You can see in your screenshot the transfer section

We can't We want to centralise it all
Chaika
Chaika4w ago
centralise it all?
Rasputin
RasputinOP4w ago
Yes we do not want to use multiple sites just for one website we want to centralise the website into one hosting service And we feel that cloudflare is not sufficient for that As it does not meet the companies needs We want something generic and basic for the customer and it just confuses them. So they have requested to change to a different service with an easier setup. This is why we are trying to move off cloudflare as it does not meet their needs.

You'll want to transfer the domain then, not delete it
Rasputin
RasputinOP4w ago
This feels like i am going in circles. I can not transfer it for the third time as it does not accept the company as a service. It does not recognise one another How can you transfer it when it does not accept the company?
Chaika
Chaika4w ago
that's not what you said to begin with, all your initial messages were about deleting it entirely
Rasputin
RasputinOP4w ago
Yes it was because we can start clean with it. If we release it we can then require it via the other hosting service. But it's stuck with cloudflare
Chaika
Chaika4w ago
It would take weeks to become purchasable again after you submit the deletion request
Rasputin
RasputinOP4w ago
That's fine as long as I can not use cloudflare
Chaika
Chaika4w ago
then I would submit a registrar support ticket asking about deleting the domain it might be slightly faster to reregister it, normal expiration process is like ~45 days, with redemption period and such, but deletion requests skip some of that, depends on the tld though but yea, your options are: 1 -> Deletion and re-register it elsewhere, contact support 2 -> Transfer it out, figuring out why the transfer doesn't work. uk domains are quirky with their tag transfers, you didn't describe too much the issue but possible you'd have better luck with a bigger registrar like namecheap/porkbun to transfer to, swap nameservers over to whomever you'd want to use/away from Cloudflare

So got a response from cloudflare it has told us the exact same thing as we did. We request more help and it told us the exact same thing. I love how it tells us to contact support but yet do not help us in any of the slightest
Chaika
Chaika2w ago
I'm not sure what "it" told us the "exact same thing" means
Rasputin
RasputinOP2w ago
Cloudflare was told us the exact same message that we have tried and its not been helpful for a ticketing system. Use a tutorial its like bro we can't delete the domain it says contact customer support
