Organize Photos
I'm moving from Google Photos to Immich. Can I force Immich to organize the physical location of each photo based on EXIF data, to something like /YEAR/MONTH/DAY/IMAGE-NAME? I want to start fresh. Thanks and keep up the amazing work!

Information
In order to be able to effectively help you, we need you to provide clear information to show what the problem is. The exact details needed vary per case, but here is a list of things to consider:
- Your docker-compose.yml and .env files.
- Logs from all the containers and their status (see above).
- All the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far.
- Any recent changes you've made to Immich or your system.
- Details about your system (both software/OS and hardware).
- Details about your storage (filesystems, type of disks, output of commands like fdisk -l
and df -h
).
- The version of the Immich server, mobile app, and other relevant pieces.
- Any other information that you think might be relevant.
Please paste files and logs with proper code formatting, and especially avoid blurry screenshots.
Without the right information we can't work out what the problem is. Help us help you ;)
If this ticket can be closed you can use the /close
command, and re-open it later if needed.you could use use immich-go with sync albums disabled, so it doesn't create any album.
You can then group the photos by day (I think that's the default if I recall correctly)
this is an unofficial tool https://github.com/simulot/immich-go?tab=readme-ov-file#from-google-photos-sub-command
I already downloaded and extracted the Takeout files (I have a backup copy). The extracted takeout is 700GB.
Can I run immich-go on a locally downloaded take to just organize the files?
immich-go is used to upload assets to immich, not sure exactly what you are after
Sorry for not being clear. I'm after a couple things. I'd like to first and foremost organize my extracted Takeout at the file level, so moving each file into it's appropriate year, month, day folder based on EXIF data, if there isn't any EXIF data available, or the filename doesn't have a date listed, then move that file to folder X. Once that's done, then I'll have a clean photo library
well the first part doesn't seem related to immich
or, all of that, really
so you want to organize your library locally. that's not what Immich is for, you are looking for a local photo management tool
I want to organize it locally then bring it into Immich
You could ask in #off-topic if anyone has a workflow that works for them
