docker volume path for external library on macOS
Hi all,
I am new to Immich and Docker and trying to figure things out. Immich is installed and running on my mac, and I have Docker Desktop.
I am now trying to add an external library for the pictures stored on an external hard-drive, and I am here: https://immich.app/docs/features/libraries#mount-docker-volumes.
The name of the hard drive is Archive so I am adding a line that starts with "- /Volumes/Archive:", but I cannot figure out the second part that Docker is supposed to see.
How do I figure that out?

- Logs from all the containers and their status (see above).

Successfully submitted, a tag has been added to inform contributors. :white_check_mark:The right hand side after the colon is just the path inside the container. It's basically arbitrary. Can name it whatever you want. So could be:
/Volumes/Archive:/Volumes/Archive or /Volumes/Archive:/mnt/media/archive or whateverThanks @schuhbacca. I happen to have tried both, actually 🙂 but I get an error message about the path when I try and create the external library in Immich
I seem to remember on Mac you need to add the path first to docker desktop before it can be used in containers. (I think, I don't use mac / docker desktop)
All this to say we really recommend linux and straight docker 🙂

Nope, would have to wait for a mac user unfortunately. (Not sure if there are many of them here 😅 ) But basically from immich's side, adding that line to the volumes is all you need.
How is this related to a transition to linux..?

hi all, I am still struggling with this. @schuhbacca you said I could choose any name I want. But this should also be set up in Docker Desktop, no? I mean, I tried the names you indicated, but they are not recognised by Immich as path for external libraries.
For clarity, this is the error message I get when creating thee library with my path: "Invalid import path: Path does not exist (ENOENT) (Immich Server Error)"
