Could you try running flatpak run com.heroicgameslauncher.hgl in your terminal application? That'll hopefully have some output on what went wrong

Hmm, very odd indeed Perhaps try a flatpak override --reset com.heroicgameslauncher.hgl

Is ~/Games a symlink?

yea it leads to the games folder in my secondary ssd to be more specific: the secondary drive is mounted as ~/steamssd/ within it there's a games folder i symlinked into the home folder for ease of access

Right, that won't work for Flatpak applications. You might be able to get around this by giving the Heroic Flatpak access to ~/steamssd/ (using Flatseal or another Flatpak permission manager). Ideally you'd mount your drive in a more standard location though (/run/media/ is the de-facto standard, /mnt/ and /media/ will also work for Heroic)

Make sure to restart Flatseal if you had it open before, we've reset the permissions with the override command above

i use a diff app to flatseal to manage flatpak perms
