My deus ex human revolution & star wars the force unleashed saves are gone.
Well i tried booting up a diffrent game today (heroes of might & magic 5), and after that i booted up my dues ex game and all of sudden my save file is gone and now all my games are asking me to try "wine experimental" again like after booting them up for the first time.
As of right now it seems to only affect deus ex and force unleased, while knight of the old republic and hitman absolution seem to be unaffected. "I only have these 5 games installed".
Im not the most tech savy person out there so any help would be appreciated.

Did you change from wine to proton (or the reverse?)

No just proton experimental.

Ah it means you havent set up any wine with heroic's wine manager or set a default (because you likely didnt have wine installed)
So it found one installed by steam

I fiqured thats what it meant.
I was able to replicate that by reseting the heroic cache but i dont see why that would remove my save data?

So the basics are: there are two common flavors of wine, the unmodified wine, and proton, the version of wine valve maintains to run games.
In heroic, both Wine and proton create a "wine prefix" which is kind of like a virtual c drive for windows. It kind of acts as a place holder for windows systems. Among other things, this is where most games will put their save files.
However proton and wine dont use the same file structure in their prefixes, so its common to "lose" your save when you change between them
Similarly if you delete the prefix it will delete your save
If you didnt delete the prefix folder then the save is simply in the worng place for the game to see it. You can copy it over to the right one like any other file

So i heard, your supposed to start new game and transfer the files from the old save to the new one. but where do i find the old one?

Tbh first thing I would do is make a copy of the prefix folder heh so you dont lose anything
Then post a screenshot of what is in the folder
The prefix folders are defaulted to be placed in ~/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default

Looks like something is misconfigured, looks like something set the default folder as its prefix rather than a subfolder for the specific game
Which games do you need the save files from?

well my goal here was to see what was messed up
because he has some game specific prefixes and i wanted to see which games were not set correctly
cuz if you look at the screen shot of the folder 2 games are in the prefix and then default was used as a prefix so there's a lot to clean up, but first we have to save the save games

so like a few things: your prefix folder in game settings is wrong, but it looks like there is a deus ex folder already in there, so you can change the prefix location from
/home/deck/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default to home/deck/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/Deus Ex Human Revolution - Director's Cut

your other issue is that you aren't using GE-Proton from heroics wine manager

yep yep its in the wine manager on the left, you can then set heroic to use it by default
so that next time you install it will have the right one
you will have to change the others.. granted i hesitate to change things if its otherwise working
but this will set you up better in the future when you install new games
GE-Proton with umu enabled will generally lead to a more successful time with playing games (umu will automatically apply fixes that the whole linux gaming community contributes to) so more games "just work" once that's set up

ge updates whenever that project puts new versions out, however umu has a repository of fixes that is always updating, so yes those fixes will continually get better
but this only works with ge-proton so thats why the version change
once you install it you should be able to select it on the game settings page and use it
