Washing vintage garments

So I got a dress from the 1960s but it‘s in pretty bad shape mostly bc it seems like the previous owner was too afraid to properly wash it Now my question: Does anyone have tips on how to wash delicate vintage clothing and how to treat stains? I like the dress a lot and wouldn’t want to ruin it by washing it wrong so I‘m thankful for all the info I can get

I‘m not 100% sure but I think it‘s very thin cotton

hand wash in cold water with detergent should be safe id bet, oxygen bleach is my first thought for colors/stains but i would test little spot just to be extra safe

can pre-treat before washing with either baking soda paste or diluted dish liquid; the baking soda is probably stronger is more likely to damage the fabric
