looking for recs that fit this summer vibe
Lots of my stuff is older, starting to break down so I'm slowly replacing stuff as it dies and am taking this opportunity to update my style from "shit i have had for years + random pieces i liked from tj maxx" to something more cohesive.
I love the way "mens clothes but for femmes" looks and i collected these inspo images over a couple weeks. I also used these images to kinda pick a color palette that i would enjoy wearing (though im totally cool going outside of)
mainly looking for search terms, like names of general clothing articles i can use for research, but am also down for brands who fit this vibe or even just more inspo pics. not strictly limited to mens clothes, either, though i'd like to stick 75-90% there.
i do fear that the answers to why these things look the way they do will be something along the lines of "this is just what these items look like when put on and styles for more femme bodies" but i'm hoping someone more knowledgable will have some insights
thanks in advance.
budget edit: max for a piece will probably be $100, though hoping to keep it closer to $65. whole wardrobe will be bought over a long span of time, so no upper range, really, if there's something i like outside my budget, i'll put in time to save for it.

Duluth Trading company has a lot of stuff like this in those colors
overall a budget is gonna help people give better recs
i definitely like their stuff and have a couple things from them (including my favorite jacket). I'll definitely need to explore their womens shorts (and figure out my sizing) cuz all their shorts for men look very "republican dad-core"
uniqlo women’s clothes, especially shorts, can be really hit or miss on fabrics but when they hit they hit and their colors are compatible w what you’re going for
if you know your measurements it’ll help with buying secondhand and the market for shit like your inspo is BIG and CHEAP
good call, edited it in
If you want something a bit more unique I would recommend Aigle https://www.aigle.com/int/en-us/women-clothes

i think vintage/ebay is also probably good to look for random oversized buttoned shirts
olive, burnt orange, rust, brown, white cream beige, dusty pink have all been trendy colors for years and fabrics like linen hemp and flax are great for summer and wider fits
yeah you seem to be looking for a bunch of oversized button up shirts which, also, are thankfully widely abundant on ebay and depop
fatigues, balloon/barrel leg pants, easy pants etc from any of a bunch of sources will get you there (a&f, cos, madewell, uniqlo, misc vintage or secondhand)
brands like uh FLAX or OKSA or EILEEN FISHER have a bunch of summery stuff in those fabrics and colors iirc
yea, the people i've known who dress like this IRL are all big thrifters. I've had limited luck in mens sections but my social anxiety and fear have kept me from more than casual browsing through the womens sections as i walk past. for sure gonna have to figure out my sizes so i can look online.
just measure clothes you own and like the fit of then start scrolling
the shorts i’m wearing today are “women’s” uniqlo linen blend
Also don’t miss cheap mil surp, oversized button downs and fatigue pants galore
a lot of how “femme” clothes look can come down to styling if that’s a concern (or priority, either way)
this is something i'm playing with and experimenting with just around the house but have not yet figured out in a way that works for me. I feel like thats just gonna take time and experimentation, though
mid summer inspo that might hit for you 1/?

it’s a journey! accessorizing, higher waists, fuller cuts, crops, etc all go a long way
oh these are fantastic
https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1354487340952846416 this thread also has some good inspo/talk about adding/expirmenting with femme elements in style
this is exactly what i had in mind!
almost all of these examples are mfad users in #waywt btw(:
soup elden ring shirt so good i lov eit

that sillage pic had a choke hold on me last summer
i’ll pause to not shit up the thread but yeah you can get away from looking like a republican dad while wearing the same shit they do if you style it well!
y'all are so wonderful, thank you all so much!
this is giving me tons of ideas
some shoes that might hit include converse, docs (or derbies or leather boots in general, lots of good military surplus options for boots), (some) hokas, merrells and salomons, any one of the million (penny and/or platform or lug sole) loafers, fisherman sandals, new balances (high variance)
thats good, cuz i have lots of converse, running shoes that are only good for walking in at this point, and have been eyeing some jim green boost https://jimgreenfootwear.com/store/african-ranger-buffalo-leather-midsole/

keep an eye out in #inspiration and #waywt , ask for feedback, ask people what they’re wearing, whatever. a lot of people here have been deep in the hobby for years but we have had a larger number of well dressed thrifters than folks who primarily buy designer
idk shit about boots unfortunately
something something red wings
lol all good, i have a friend i can ask about boots
but imo for all the fits you linked a black combat boot would work
oh we have boot ppl don’t get me wrong
Look into Canadian or German/austrian combat boots second hand
Idk if someone recommended yet
Can find some decent boots for like 60-70
Might be out of the price range but if you can find some tanker boots, kind of a cool/less common variant of the same boot shape
some brands or shops whose styling you might like include glasswing, no man walks alone, colbo, sassafras, tefkit, story mfg, gardenheir, frizmworks, (anglan?), engineered garments, basically anything carried by Totem in philly or Glasswing in seattle or Colbo in NYC
Jim green is fine, just make sure you read their sizing guide because it’s in like Uk sizes. And the leather midsole is the better option
black austrian paratrooper boots are a classic
If you’re looking at heeled boots can’t forget the pacific northwest guys doing their thing
oh or this shit

whats gyw?
boot nerd subreddit
Could also go for more americana with moccasin/moc toe boots. Tend to be a bit slimmer profile
oohhh goodyear welt
yea probably not worth going down that rabbithole unless u really wanna get into boots haha
all the recs in this thread are already really good
Tbh even if you do there’s better
"this is just what these items look like when put on and styles for more femme bodies"no one should ever tell you this, there is infinite variation wear what u like in the ways u like there are many wonderful people here who do that, so glad to see them actively inspiring you above
Would like to add this route gets very expensive very quick😂
since this has slowed down a bit i'm gonna spam a bit.
uniqlo stuff might restock if sold out; generally recommend searching secondhand but if you wanna try stuff out and have the option to return you could do worse than uniqlo or a&f! didnt scroll thru the entirety of a&f since.. theres's a lot

also would generally recommend accessories - a lil tote, chain, or rings are a good start and are widely and abundantly available at thrifts or fleas or on ebay under $30

Thrift places are sometimes mixed gender btw
Like clothes categorized by type rather than by M/F if that makes sense
But yeah, seconding the high waisted pants, and tucking in your top is an easy way to make an outfit read more fem/unisex. Adding on to above accessory suggestions, you can throw together a carabiner charm on a belt loop - can be more functional like mail keys/ect or morw dressy like keychains or tassels. It can pass as functional wear if you want to be more lowkey
ooh these are good tips! i definitely do the carabiner thing with my keys already, so glad to get confirmation that this does in fact look good at least sometimes lol
once again, this is absolutley excellent, thank you so much for your hard work!
