Immich iOS app ; 2000+ photos with same date, long after being processed.
Not entirely sure what's happened here. I have gone through every single one of my photos over the last twelve months and put them into albums. At some point, I don't know when, something has crapped itself and I now have 2000+ photos dated on the 29th & 30th of August 2024. These photos come from a variety of sources; sent to me via WhatsApp or ones I've taken myself and not sent to anyone.
It seems totally random in nature. Photos I know where taken on my birthday in 2023, 20 of them that were sent via WhatsApp all have random times for those two dates.
This is some raw data of a photo sent to me via WhatsApp that does not have the issue.

Interestingly, both photos have the location I would have set manually. So whatever has happened has only affected dates, not all data assigned to this photo.
I've found the same photo in my iPhone and it has the correct date assigned to it.
Fixing this manually will be troublesome, for holiday photos, easy enough, but ones of my daughter from when she was a baby is going to be extremely difficult.
Is there a way to blow these photos away and have them scrape from my phone again? Adding them to albums is far easier than trying to fix the date.
Server 1.132.5
iOS: 1.132.3 build.205
I have marked 6 as done however I have obviously not added it (yaml) as don't feel it's relevant for the request of deleting and re-adding. Should you feel it pertinent I will happily provide.

Successfully submitted, a tag has been added to inform contributors. :white_check_mark:This is the date you saved those files
If there is no Date(Time)Taken EXIF tag, then Immich will use the creation date of the file
That's the point though. They DID have a date on. Many of these are holiday photos I've already sorted and so if for any reason they did not have a date then I would have set it at the point of adding to an album.
Right, sorry 😛 where did you date/file these?
Android or iOS
Assuming they didn't have a date on when taken/sent to me (iOS) then I would have done it through Immich Web Client.
Do the files have a .xmp sidecar file located next to them in the filesystem?
This is just one such instance of the photo in my phone, and the other in Immich, along with the location of the photo.
I think it might be worth noting this may have been caused by a phone replacement. I had to send off my phone for repair about three months back. The one I used as a temp thing I did not download my photos, leaving them in the cloud. I did however connect Immich back up. And then when I got mine back I downloaded my photos from iCloud.
Sadly I don't know if this is when the problem happened, I've only just noticed.
I am happy with trashing the 2000+ photos and letting Immich re-upload if that's an option.

Just to be clear, whatsapp pictures have no date metadata. So immich is generally not able to detect a date from them
Yea I know, and I'm ok with that. I have my wife send me photos via iMessage for that reason - or rather I have been for the last six months
I can 100% say with absolute certainty IF no date came through on a photo I would have set one myself.
This is a photo taken on my birthday. I know the exact date (obviously! ha)
As you can see it has location data and an album set so I have very clearly taken the time to edit the pic.
At some point, I don't know why, this has gone.

sorry but there is just not enough info here to know what happened
you can look for the companion XMP files on your filesystem and see if they exist, if stuff was set they always get created
Presumably if I delete them, then remove Immich from phone, put it back on again and it starts to scrape my photos, it will set the date of all of these sent via WhatsApp to today and not the date in the iOS library?
