Is a blazer like this suitable for wearing with Jeans?
I'm looking to expand my wardrobe into more "formal" wear, as i feel slightly underdressed when going out with my partner. I hear that you should maybe start with a navy blazer/sports coat and a grey blazer/sports coat, and also that to wear with jeans/less formally you should look for either patterned or rougher textures to the blazer.
So, would a grey blazer like this match up with dark jeans, or would you feel this is a blazer that is part of a suit and would look out of place without matching trousers?

gray sport coats are particularly difficult to pass as sport coats as opposed to orphan suit jackets, doubly so with a fine worsted fabric like that. would recommend against.
you want a really informal fabric for wearing tailoring with jeans. think tweed or cords for FW or linen, cotton, WSL blends for S/S
also the jeans matter too. the most informal sport coat will still look out of place if the jeans are too slim and low rise. make sure you're actually wearing jeans that are straight enough to not look out of place with a tailored jacket
Ok, so this blazer is a no go for informal wear
i wouldn't wear it with anything less casual than dress chinos personally
based on what you mentioned, i think you'll find a navy blazer a lot easier to style. emphasis on blazer, look for something with brass buttons and patch pockets and keep an eye out for a hopsack/mock leno type fabric
Ahh do i need to go with Brass Buttons? That style reminds me of parades of WW2 military veterans
i mean, to me, that's what makes a blazer a blazer and not just a sport coat
No, brown buttons are good too.
a navy sport coat isn't as big of a faux pas as a gray sport coat, but it's a lot closer to orphaned suit jacket territory than a blazer with brass buttons, which no one will ever mistake for an orphaned suit jacket
Ive seen chambelanes at quinces wearing stuff like this, so i think its fine
it might be wise to form your idea of formal/casual and what specifically you might want to wear
blazer or sport coat and jeans is one way to be inbetween formal and informal but it's not the only way, nor is there a set color of tailoring that is best to wear with jeans
