Trackmania Not working
I am trying to install Trackmania from Epic Games (in Epic, the full name is "Trackmania Starter Access"). I'm using
Game-Porting-Toolkit-Latest
, and I have run the ubisoftconnectinstaller.exe
as a prefix before launching. I also linked my Ubisoft and Epic Games accounts in the macOS Epic Games Launcher, so that isn't the problem as well. I have tried Wine-CrossOver-Latest
as well as Game-Porting-Toolkit-Latest
, but none of the available Wine versions in Heroic seem to have an effect.18 Replies

two things,
Game Log: IMPORTANT: Logs are disabled. Enable verbose logs in Game's settings > Advanced tab > 'Enable verbose logs' before reporting an issue. and two, I can’t remember for sure but I’m pretty sure Ubisoft games currently need the paid version of crossover to work properly, I think something changed on the Ubisoft connect installer at some point, and it just doesn’t play nice with these older wine versions anymore

I couldn't find that setting and wasn't able to enable it
Ubisoft launches normally, but the actual game doesn't launch for some reason

Hello, I had a look around and I have found two possibilities you can try: "May 13 2024 Launching works only when DXVK is activated. But then the dark parts are way too dark... So still unplayable" and on the Whisky website "To fix Ubisoft Connect, you will need to install d3dx9, d3dx10 and dotnet4.8 DLLs through winetricks." Post updated 2024-11-01.
As you can use winetricks in heroic installing the above might help get the game running.
Whisky used very similar tools (wine & GPTK) to get games running on Mac, so the fixes for that software should help with Heroic, hopefully.

I just tried all of those, but the "dark parts" issue was there a lot
I'll try with GPTK since I've been using crossover so far
small update: the game works flawlessly using the Steam version. The only thing that doesn't load is the Ubisoft Connect in-game page (if you attempt to access Ubisoft Connect through the game by any means, it will say that there was an error accessing Ubisoft Connect). Logically speaking, this should also happen with the Epic version since, from Ubisoft's perspective, Steam and Epic are equivalent launchers. I want to use the Epic version because it makes launching easier and I also get access to Heroic features (e.g. adding to Steam)

thats...interesting
huh.
actually quite weird

I also want to mention that I actually got the Epic version working in the past......
then I uninstalled Heroic because it was taking up too much storage and when I tried to reinstall Trackmania, I forgot how I got it working
sooo.....oops

I enabled verbose logs, here they are

im gonna be honest this punches a bit above my experience tier

would you be able to directly ask one of the developers?
I'm also gonna try messing around with the different wine versions and praying that one of them works. I've linked my Ubisoft and Epic accounts as well as run
ubisoftconnectinstaller.exe
as a prefix, and the Ubisoft launchscreen shows up. So I know it's a problem with Wine and not Ubisoft authenticationfascinating-indigo•3mo ago
you need to update wine
that function was implemented in early 2023 so something in late 2023/early 2024 might be enough

I don tthink thats true for trackmania, I was able to get it to run out of the box on crossover trial without any issues. Online features like ranked and stuff also worked
conscious-sapphire•3mo ago
crossover’s trial is the fully paid version of crossover, it’s just that you’ll get locked out once the trial ends
sensitive-blue•3mo ago
oh, I was under the impression that the paid crossover is a version ahead with slightly better compatibility with some games, and that the demo is always one version behind
conscious-sapphire•3mo ago
nop, the only difference is paying lets you get access to the "preview" builds which ar eusually just beta tests for the next update
