Ignoring the top one
[2020-09-08 10:23:48 AM] : Ignoring the top one because it's always got traffic and anything I've tried to convert that traffic has failed, the second one is more interesting [File hidden by Slack limit]

[2020-09-08 12:04:59 PM] : Interesting - so I've never really considered that to be a problem... but it may be. I don't really have any context to know what's "typical" for bounce rates. It may also represent a difference between what Matomo considers a bounce compared to something like, say, Google Analytics.
Matomo (I think) simply counts anyone who visits just the one page as bounced.
[2020-09-08 12:44:42 PM] : I don’t know… it’s hard for me sometimes jonh as i tend to revert back to the thinking used during my affiliate marketing days. Much of that thinking has nothing to do with what we are trying to accomplish here with 30x500 and this old thinking consistently bites me in arse :scream:
So with that all said, i could be totally off base, but… here’s how i read those stats:
1. The highest bounce rates have the lowest avg. time on site (they don’t find what they need and bounce quickly)
2. The lowest bounce rate has the highest avg. time on site (they are finding more of what they want and staying)
To me (again i could be totally wrong here) that says your content isn’t matching your visitor expectations.
For context, I use an analytics package called Clicky and I believe they count “bounce rate” much in the same way you’ve described. For the last 90 days on my site I have a bounce rate reported as 18% (which seems way to high to me) and the vast majority of people only ever visit 1 page on my site.
[2020-09-08 12:51:09 PM] : Ah, okay just took a peek at Matomo versus Clicky for bounce rates (i was curious :slightly_smiling_face:) there is a big difference, actually. Clicky keeps pinging their servers while the browser tab is active and on the page:
We figure, if someone is there for at least 30 seconds, they were at least mildly engaged and should not count as a bounce.
Versus Matomo who clearly states: The percentage of visits that leave the site without visiting another page.

[2020-09-08 12:52:02 PM] : So maybe bounce rates is not relevant, but then what about avg. time on page? that’s really low too
[2020-09-09 02:54:17 AM] : Food for thought! I know it's been discussed on here before that search engine traffic doesn't necessarily convert very well, so this could be an indicator that I need to get more active in my watering holes (participating and dropping ebombs!)
[2020-09-10 02:53:51 PM] : i think google computes it the same way as Matomo. I have Clicky and Google Analytics on my site (probably should cut that down to one, but anyway...) - over the last month, Clicky says my bounce rate was 17% and GA says 90%
[2020-09-10 02:54:32 PM] : personally i think Clicky's method is more meaningful. i don't really care if someone visits a second page, as long as they got something out of the first page they visited
[2020-09-10 06:21:30 PM] : lol at 17% vs 90% :grinning:
