After many many many
[2021-12-04 02:58:06 PM] : After many many many years, I've started doing some research again and ended up writing an ebook for an audience I don't normally serve: non-technical folks. I've launched basically a free ebomb (it's FREE) in the form of an ebook and would love anyone with time who has interest in the blockchain some thoughts:
thebiglittle.co
The Big Little
Technical blog about all things tech. Blockchain, CyberSecurity, Beginner to advanced

[2021-12-04 04:34:48 PM] : do you find that people who haven't programmed before are able to follow the material in the book on their own? that's really interesting
[2021-12-04 04:38:26 PM] : Hey julia -- thanks for checking it out. Yeah, I've worked with a bunch of people hands-on and not who have.
My parents (non-technical) folks have been helping clear things up and the more feedback I'm getting, the more interested I'm finding my tiny audience appreciating.
[2021-12-04 04:39:44 PM] : I'm thinking about breaking the book up into multiple sections though -- the most interested people in my audience get a lot through the theory and feel like the technical parts are beyond their interest
[2021-12-04 06:59:20 PM] : This is an implementation note and not about the material itself, but it was pretty surprising and a little frustrating to give an email on the site, have to confirm the email, to get a link to Gumroad, to put in my email again on Gumroad, to be sent the PDF. :grimacing:
[2021-12-04 09:18:48 PM] : I know -- alex I want a sane way to manage updates to the book
[2021-12-04 09:19:02 PM] : I suppose I could just link it on the page, perhaps?
[2021-12-04 09:19:42 PM] : Thanks for the thought -- I wasn't trying to make it perfect, just trying to get to publish as fast as I could and figured I'd optimize it later
[2021-12-04 09:39:51 PM] : Yeah or even do the Gumroad embed.
[2021-12-04 09:41:05 PM] : It's not that it's imperfect, it just seems like you added MORE extra steps that don't help you or the reader.
[2021-12-04 09:42:08 PM] : Gumroad's email system is pretty awful in my experience but anything is gonna be better than the number of hoops I had to jump thru!
[2021-12-04 10:14:42 PM] : I’ll likely move to generating an AWS s3 link and just use it as a way to share it. Gumroad is just a stop gap for now
[2021-12-05 12:07:43 PM] : I would setup a link on your own domain that forwards do you can change it later to an updated version easily. Nicer for people to share as well.
[2021-12-05 12:08:20 PM] : Eg thebiglittle.co/ebook or even a subdomain.
[2021-12-05 06:34:17 PM] : jon thanks for the idea -- I have a second version of the site coming up soon and I'm taking julia idea of breaking the book into 3 books.
After building a book publishing company for a decade (after my first round of 30x500 many years ago), I tend to stick towards massive books, but I think that's an ineffective way to teach after thinking about it.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback
