[2021-12-15 01:05:04 AM] : Not sure if this was meant for everyone but I did it anyway:
Painstorming
- "Not convinced yet that I need google analytics or even a facebook pixel.. But also I'm not convinced I need any analytics for my site.”
- "Am I missing something BIG?”
- "Am I supposed to use analytics, of some kind? HotJar?”
- " I am stumped here... why should I know where people are coming to me from?"

Managing cookies and private data correctly is a lot of work and also there is risk to still do it wrong. Pains are: Additional work and risk

I fear that I need to install something but I’m not sure what. But I need to do something as everybody else does it as well

- growth strategy

Recommends / Buys
- On a basic level you should want to know if traffic is increasing
- On a basic level you should want to know if your homepage is converting
- On a basic level you should want to know where people are coming to you from
- You don't need cookie consent if you use a privacy friendly package like Plausible
https://plausible.io/?ref=songbox-sent-me
- If the goal is to just survive as a Indie Hacker, you may not even care about those numbers as long as you get sales and money keeps coming in the bank.
- You may not care if you had increase in traffic necessarily as long as you are making enough sales to keep you going as an IndieHacker (spirit of this site, right??)
- Analytics in the sense we are talking about is a very modern concept. Business exists since long before the advent of modern analytics
- By the way, a business can exist and even thrive without much of the
above (channel strategy, growth strategy, customer acquisition plan). Look at the brick and mortar stores around where you live.
- These are all stuff the Silicon Valley companies invented to show their VCs that their company is valuable and on its way to billions. Most of the time, it is made up.

-> When investment is there it gets real. You need to only think about such numbers everything else is irrelevant

-> The raw data is not valuable when you don’t understand them. You can’t applied them without understanding.
[2021-12-15 08:04:00 AM] : This almost feels like OP is trolling to me. Some of his comments strongly suggest he didn't expect or want to be convinced and was looking for someone to echo his own beliefs back to him. On the other hand, many comments do an awful job at explaining when/why analytics can be useful so maybe it is frustration with so many comments just assuming you need analytics. [2021-12-15 10:05:13 AM] : Oh Kamphy was definitely trolling for Indie Hackers engagement. [2021-12-15 10:05:27 AM] : all of the good stuff is in the comments. [2021-12-15 02:48:06 PM] : Here’s what I got, but I’m fairly new to this. I ended up zoning in on worldviews for some reason, instead of pains.

Worldviews:
• “I think it’s one of those “if you have to ask you’ll never understand” situations”
◦  People should be aware of things on a basic level and not have to ask
• “Explain why analytics without strategy is not vanity metrics”
◦ Doesn’t believe Analytics is valuable in general, only when paired with strategy
• “If there is none of that (channel, growth strategy, etc.), then why do you have a business”
◦ Businesses are all about growth
• “Analytics in the sense we are talking about is a modern concept”
• It can provide an edge “If you know what you are doing”
◦ You need to be educated in Analytics to benefit
• “Look at brick and mortar stores around you”
◦ Believes Tech/SV are misleading with analytics
• “I don’t personally enjoy koolaid”
◦ Thinks Tech/VC/SV is cultish
• “So you have numbers to obsess over every day”
• “Knowing the numbers won’t change what you do, but it’ll help convince you that you’re in control ;) ”
◦ Winks implies tongue in cheek
◦ Believes that the value of analytics is overvalued and mostly for psychological benefit
• Two sides of the discussion:
◦ Analytics are essential and helpful for a business’ growth
◦ Analytics are either a psychological crutch or a way to mislead investors
