update on my work fo

[2022-02-23 10:11:36 AM] : update on my work for anyone interested: once again i’ve created a sales page for a course (based on safari notes), and once again the end result is something i feel weird about and unenthusiastic about. so i scrapped it. this is a cycle i’ve gone through maybe about 5 times now. i realized something this morning. my book, which has done great, started as a collection of existing e-bombs rather than as one big idea. so maybe a smarter approach for my video course would be to use a similar process: create some standalone video e-bombs. then, based on what gets a good reception, create a course around that content which has already proven to be compelling. so i believe that’s my current plan.

[2022-02-23 10:19:06 AM] : I totally understand the feeling weird about a pitch, even if you know it's well-backed by safari and good notes. I've also walked away from a sales page because it somehow felt somehow too weird [2022-02-23 10:21:01 AM] : yeah, i think my main feeling is “does anybody actually want this?” [2022-02-23 10:21:23 AM] : right [2022-02-23 10:21:40 AM] : i know from experience that the answer is often no! [2022-02-23 10:22:19 AM] : i think my main mistake has been to make too big a leap from what i know people want to what offer i decide to create [2022-02-23 10:22:43 AM] : I've felt something somewhat different, too: "Is that really me talking there, or am I just going through the motions, mechanically writing a pitch page that "works" but not really?" [2022-02-23 10:22:58 AM] : yeah [2022-02-23 10:23:58 AM] : i think at some point the safariing has to get recursive. there’s only so much publicly available online. at some point i have to actually offer a small product, get feedback, and expand it based on the feedback [2022-02-23 10:24:03 AM] : I definitely struggle to stay grounded in what people want. I find myself frequently going beyond what I've found in safari. It's not that it's baseless, it's just...overshooting [2022-02-23 10:25:19 AM] : yes [2022-02-23 02:25:20 PM] : > once again i’ve created a sales page for a course (based on safari notes), and once again the end result is something i feel weird about and unenthusiastic about Can you elaborate? Are you unenthusiastic be cause you didn't immediately get a bunch of sales, or something else? What numbers were you hoping for vs what you got? How long has the product been out there? Have you released a sample or anything related to what you intended to make? [2022-02-23 02:26:46 PM] : I ask b/c my first product definitely did worse than I expected at launch, but I found it grew to be what I expected over time. Wondering if something similar may be going on and you are aborting too quickly. Or perhaps not. Always hard to tell. [2022-02-23 02:45:17 PM] : no, this is way pre-launch. i spent many hours writing and editing the sales page only to step back at the end and realize i couldn’t really endorse this thing i just created, if that makes sense [2022-02-23 02:45:30 PM] : it just felt really arbitrary [2022-02-23 02:47:29 PM] : when i thought about the course that the sale page described, i thought to myself, why am i doing this? what even is this? [2022-02-23 04:21:16 PM] : Ahh [2022-02-23 04:22:15 PM] : Makes sense. I was worried you were launching a sales page and giving up if it didnt immediately get some high number of preorders.
