[2022-04-08 03:50:15 PM] : Is it weird to ask a list of questions to prepare before being interviewed in someone else’s podcast? I asked a podcast host and he’s being weird about it

[2022-04-08 03:55:33 PM] : Not weird at all. I ask a bunch of questions before a podcast interview so I can come prepared and ease my anxiety. [2022-04-08 03:59:08 PM] : i would also say not weird at all! [2022-04-08 03:59:14 PM] : Do you mind sharing some of the questions you ask? Do you ask for the topics/questions you’re going to address during the interview? [2022-04-08 04:00:52 PM] : i don’t think it’s weird to ask a podcast host to brief you on the questions they might ask you, but in my opinion it’s better if the guest is the one who provides the questions. that makes the host’s job easier. and it’s of course the guest who is more familiar with the guest’s areas of expertise. [2022-04-08 04:01:38 PM] : as a host i almost never prepare specific questions for the guest (although i know that a lot of podcast hosts do). the most i usually pick is a topic. [2022-04-08 04:03:47 PM] : I disagree with Jason on that. As the guest, I'm already giving my time for free, I'd expect the questions to come from the host. Prior to agreeing to the interview, I ask questions about who their audience is and the topics they want to talk about. This helps me decide if it's worth my time/energy to do the interview. After agreeing to the interview, I typically ask for questions we'll be focused on and any particular areas they want to highlight. Totally fine to go off-script, but I need a general idea of where the convo is going to prepare. [2022-04-08 04:06:49 PM] : hmm, interesting. perhaps part of what colors my views is that i personally get very few podcast guesting opportunities. and usually my guest appearances are a result of me asking for them, not someone inviting me [2022-04-08 04:58:44 PM] : Ah, that makes a ton more sense. I'd absolutely agree with you in that case [2022-04-08 05:00:04 PM] : and fwiw i totally agree with your approach for your situation [2022-04-08 06:04:44 PM] : Thank you both for your insights. Very helpful  I told the host that I’ll proceed with the collab if I there’s a general outline/questions we’ll cover to make sure the audience gets most value from the episode. Ball is in his court. He just started out (podcast has 1 episode so far) so likely he doesn’t have much experience, and that’s ok. It’s just his attitude about it all that raises red flags. He asked me if I’ve interviewed others before suggesting that he’s the interviewer and knows better. Also sending smiles and being vague about whether we’re on the same page or not. :face_with_rolling_eyes:
