a realization that i

[2022-06-09 06:50:02 PM] : a realization that i’ve repeatedly had over the last couple years, although i haven’t consciously articulated it to myself before, is that the main thing i teach (ruby on rails testing) is a huge topic which involves a large number of hard-to-teach things, and many of the concepts have prerequisite concepts which on their own don’t have much intrinsic value but are only worth learning if you’re going to learn certain other things later. so it’s huge and hard to break up without committing to a large number of sub-projects. at least i think. anyway, i’m not sure what to do with that information yet, but it feels like maybe a useful realization to make

[2022-06-10 05:00:40 AM] : This is my situation jasonswett... I had a guy ask me "Should I put stiffer springs on my car to give me more grip?" .... The flippant answer is "it depends" ... the helpful answer involves quite a lot of hard-to-teach things ... things that this guy isn't really interested in either! One tool that was suggested to me was to use concept-maps. This was to help with course structure. I tried doing one and it got out of hand (!) but I feel that is the way to go. https://learningcenter.unc.edu/tips-and-tools/using-concept-maps/ [2022-06-10 06:28:57 AM] : interesting, i hadn’t heard of concept maps
