[2022-10-19 01:26:04 PM] : I'm seeing lots of comments and questions about audiences, so I wanted to share a reminder that I hope is beneficial to everyone! lots of people get stressed out about this part of the process. whether it's worry about picking the wrong audience, or uncertainty about which audiences are actually "valid." this feels like a huge, important choice. and it feels like it's going to be super hard to undo if you get it wrong. here's the most important thing to remember: BOTH OF THESE FEELINGS ARE UNTRUE! • especially when you're just getting started, the key is just that, to get started. "naming" an audience is really just there to help you make a choice about where to start. think of your initial audience more like choosing a starting point, rather than forcing yourself to choose a destination. it's perfectly normal to learn from your Safari research that there's actually a better audience to focus on, either by zooming in (more specific) or zooming out (less specific). but you won't make those decisions to zoom in or out until you've found clues or evidence that lead you in that direction. • one of the BIGGEST areas of resistance and struggle that we see is choosing an audience you belong to. for lots of reasons! remember that the reason we strongly recommend working with audiences you belong to (or have a reasonably deep understanding of from first-hand interaction/observation) is because it is a HUMONGOUS ADVANTAGE. even if you don't end up building a business based on this audience long term, we strongly recommend learning the 30x500 process using an audience that fits the guidelines, because it tends to be a LOT easier to learn one thing (how to use 30x500 processes) at a time, than trying to learn two things at once (the processes AND the behaviors of an audience you don't already know). All of this to say, there is no such thing as a "perfect" or "correct" audience. Only a spectrum of options that are likely to
