Has anyone trademark

[2022-11-07 03:45:19 PM] : I recently filed a trademark for the Recut name through a local lawyer that I found through google. They were willing to hop on a call and explain the process. It was ~$950 I think, which included the govt filing fee.
I looked into going the DIY route, and the forms don’t look terribly complicated, but I figured it was probably worth the money to know it was done right… and the turnaround time is like 6-9 months too so it would’ve been time-expensive if I messed it up.
Another option would’ve been something like LegalZoom, but I felt like I had better peace of mind with the local “real” lawyer :shrug:

[2022-11-09 05:14:23 AM] : I have a few. Not sure if it is different in UK though but I just did them myself. Interestingly - coincidentally? - the Trade Mark office just contacted me to say someone had filed something similar in similar categories. I guess its not worth it, until it is!

The initial cost was something like $2000, but it kept going up as we got response requests and had to post addendums (and the lawyer just kept charging for his time). Eventually, the software did not get traction and I think technically we were still in a filing state and just stopped responding.
I very much regret it. Was a waste of money for an unproven product.
If you can do it on the cheap or yourself, maybe it’s worth it, but I would avoid trying to trademark fresh unproven ideas.
