Kind of a weird ques

[2022-11-08 04:14:04 PM] : Kind of a weird question but hopefully some of you may have an answer. I've always been great at consuming content. Listening to stuff on the go, reading stuff in front of computer or phone and that's at all good. Ever since starting 30x500 I've been trying to think of ways to become more of a creator, and I can't seem to think of a whole lot of things that can help me, especially while I'm on the go, to replacce the habits of audiobooks/podcasts or reading something on my phone. Do you guys have anything that help you stay in "creator mode" - for a lack of better words - when on the go?

[2022-11-08 04:38:43 PM] : I do a lot of voice memos on the go that I transcribe with Descript and use as my first draft [2022-11-09 12:00:10 AM] : I write emails to myself with any thoughts I have when I’m on the go. And always carry a small notebook with pen. [2022-11-09 12:43:29 AM] : I reply to posts on reddit, which has a nice free-form flow to it. My plan is to later go through my replies and put together ebombs from those. Incidentally, in one watering hole in particular I can already guess with good accuracy one of the 15 or so recurring questions that I will see when I dip in. [2022-11-09 04:37:12 AM] : That's very helpful! Replying to redit posts seems like a good place to start, that's something I can easily do from my phone on the bus! [2022-11-09 05:30:10 AM] : Creator mode is an interesting concept. I'm not sure 100% sure what you mean but if it is transitioning through different mental states - researcher, creator, editor, planner (or whatever) - then I definitely feel that is had to force... In fact I've found this can often take weeks (or months -eek!) to properly transition and I always find I've a "natural state" where I feel most comfortable hanging out... (its researcher/learner if you're interested) For me I've two things that have helped unlock things a little. 1- I send a "welcome, tell me about yourself" email to my list (don't tell anyone here as it's not proper Safari data :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:). Often that results in me answering a question someone might have directly in an email reply. I have then translated that email reply into a blog post - after tidying up a little. It is kind of similar to replying to a reddit thread... and btw the reason why (I think) this is easier is because the audience you are writing for couldn't be clearer. Whenever I start second guessing my audience and trying to make something that covers a few bases everything gets super hard. 2- I host a podcast and really enjoy interviewing my guests on behalf of my audience. Those conversations really help get my head thinking because I'm really trying to stay on the pain side of the discussion so my guests share their solutions and dream perspectives. I've not done it enough but in a 45min chat with someone who really knows their stuff, who's been their and solved the same problems, can give you a mountain of "creator" content - or at least point you off in the right direction to look. Hope that helps? #getcrispybaby #keeptruckin [2022-11-09 09:48:46 AM] : Big +1 to responding to comments and emails on-the-go. The key is adding the habit of capturing what you wrote into an easy place to turn that writing into something more complete and published down the road! This is what I systematically fail to do :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:

[2022-11-10 08:42:39 AM] : I recently came across a comic by The Oatmeal: Creativity is like breathing (Part 3 of a series BTW) The point he makes is that being creative is much like breathing. After breathing in, you have to breathe out, and vice versa. For creativity, breathing in is the time where you collect new ideas and get inspired. Breathing out is the phase of doing creative work, of making stuff. What I am trying to say is that you do not need to switch 100% to creator mode. Consider your consuming time as "inhaling" new ideas, and reserve some time for "exhaling", read: generate creative output. Just find a good balance.

This is a comic about making things.
