[2023-01-23 02:19:53 PM] : > Based on a 3% survey response the avg subscriber is 45+ years old with 9+ programming experience, whereas I’ve been mostly targeting beginner devs. a couple of things to think about: • is that 3% actually representative of the whole list? are there reasons why the folks you thought were on your list might not respond to a survey (or respond accurately)? • is it possible that someone with 9+ years of experience could still be attracted to a certain kind of beginner-oriented material? • demographics only tell you so much...did you ask any questions about what sorts of things they signed up for, want more of, etc?

[2023-01-24 12:41:44 AM] : Thank you for the question prompts! Some thoughts:
• is that 3% actually representative of the whole list? are there reasons why the folks you thought were on your list might not respond to a survey (or respond accurately)?
Yes my gut says the folks who chose to respond are not representative of the whole list. I’m guessing the older generation is more likely to fill in a survey than the younger one. 3% seems like a very small percentage so I don’t think I should extrapolate the results to the entire list. I don’t want to discard them either since any data is good data, so I’m taking a mental note.
• is it possible that someone with 9+ years of experience could still be attracted to a certain kind of beginner-oriented material?
Yes, I forgot to ask how much experience they have with JavaScript, so they might be coming from other programming languages. The way I write my articles is not suited for folks entirely new to programming, but new to the language itself. So that makes sense.
• demographics only tell you so much...did you ask any questions about what sorts of things they signed up for, want more of, etc?
Should’ve done a better job in this aspect. Noted for the future. I asked what their primary goal for 2023 is and the majority either wants to have fun while coding or earn a higher salary Thinking a bit further here, a persona could be a late middle aged developer who wants to learn new tech to reignite their passion for coding / keep having fun. Another persona could be a middle aged front-end developer who’s been in the industry for ~5 years and wants to earn more by learning back-end skills / transition to full-stack.
