Has anyone here read
[2023-02-11 06:40:45 AM] : Has anyone here read "The MOM Test"? And how does it compare (if at all) to doing safari? Is it better, worse, supplementary or simply a waste of time? Or perhaps just a completely different thing?
It's a book that's been on my radar for a while because I'm a big believer in on-going conversations with customers, but I'd like some input on it first, from anyone who's read it

[2023-02-11 03:56:46 PM] : read the book, not sure how to compare safari since i am now going thru the course.
I know the author personally and one surprising thing i find is
the principles inside also apply for my current custom services software company for existing customers who want to add new features for existing systems.
I find it better to compare with books like lean startup. I prefer it over lean startup as it’s more precise. Having said that Mom Test is still a process strategy (an operation management term) book more than a recipe book (ask this question to elicit this response).

Mom test is also kind of loosely structured and tells you the philosophy behind “why” you want to talk to customers. I’ve found that the 30x500 process is more structured since it encapsulates the big parts about business building and not just research.

Crazy coincidence you happen to know the author KimSia Sim
Based on your feedback I think I'll give it a buy :ok_hand:
[2023-02-16 10:40:35 PM] : If you have access to it, I highly recommend scribd.com. For $12/month, you get unlimited audiobooks, ebooks, magazines, and sheet music. They have both the audiobook and ebook of The Mom Test, and the ebook of "Write Useful Books" (also by Rob Fitzpatrick).
I listened to the Mom Test a while back and enjoyed it, but I prefer Michele Hansen's "Deploy Empathy", especially the audiobook to listen to a real customer interview. It's available on Scribd too.
For me, Scribd is a great way to listen to books in the car, and to find out if I like a book enough to buy it in physical form. I have a referral link that will get you 2 months free (1 month for me) if you're interested.
