[2023-03-21 03:51:35 PM] : Background: I sell courses and educational products to mid- to senior-level coders (mainly Java, with C#, PHP and Python thrown in), focusing on code quality (Test-Driven Development, Refactoring, etc.).
Twitter used to be an important marketing (and sales!) outlet as well as a solid watering hole. However, since Musk took it over, it's become noticeably less valuable, despite still having almost 3,900 followers. Before then, I would sell a good 60%+ of my public workshop seats almost directly via Twitter.
Mastodon has picked up some of my audience (about 650 followers) and has much higher engagement with folks. I know that I've gotten sales (or at least leads) directly from Mastodon, and I only see that growing.
Besides my own community (and several other Slack/Discord-based communities), there is no watering that I've found that equals the engagement and discussion I get in these places (LinkedIn, surprisingly, has gotten more interesting over the past year for me).
