[2023-06-07 02:00:54 PM] : In the spirit of sharing progress and having some accountability, I thought I’d share some notes for the week.
I’m going to skip a big intro (if you want, you can stalk me on my personal website), but to say, I bought 30x500 about two years ago. Took a shot at building some blog posts toward an “Elixir developer” audience but ultimately walked away from it after not observing enough market size/growth for my interests. I’m rebooting the course during a time of no consulting work and an appetite for a project to sink my teeth into.
My new audience is “people interested in building a digital course” or, more specifically, “tech people who know something and want to teach it but have no formal teaching background”. I’m still formalizing that description, but giving you the more verbose version until then. I’m hoping to take advantage of my own background as an educator (college adjunct teacher, corporate trainer, etc.) and technologist to help people build courses with successful student outcomes — Instructional Design for Developers kind of thing.
I’m a little worried about the imposter syndrome since I have not built a full course of my own in a bit of time, so I’m more of a former member of this group but I do feel like it is an audience that checks off the boxes for me.
It’s all very early. Over the last few days, I’ve been rewatching some course videos, started exploring watering holes, and am kicking off some early safari. I also started looking into some personal blog tech (most likely going to use on Hugo and Render; I’ve used Hugo before but Render will be a little new to me). Also, using the Notion Template that was provided in beta back in January. Will share how it works out.
Tomorrow I’m headed to NY for a tech conference and won’t likely like make progress on this until I get back. When I do my todo items include:
• Finish technical setup of blog/domain/mailing list.
• Do some safari and draft
some early ebombs.
• Craft my main questions for technical people who are actively selling courses. Hoping to set up a few interview calls to better understand the behind the scenes of how they crafted the course, how they understand student success, how they define their personal success delivering the course, etc.
• Publish one ebomb by Friday, June 16th, before I head off to a week’s vacation down the shore.
How you can help me:
• I’m on the lookout for waterholes, so if you have any, let me know.
• I’m also looking for instructional design resources people love. Got any?
