I've been offered to
[2023-08-01 03:36:05 PM] : I've been offered to take over the Unofficial Remix Community newsletter, it used to be a monthly thing and grew quickly to 1000 subs but then has sat stagnant since then. Since I'm so active the creator has offered to hand it over to me. It hasn't been promoted super well, but it's listed in the official Remix docs
This seems like a great opportunity but I don't have a proper execution plan yet. My personal mailing is around 180 subs and focuses on guides + tips that I myself am putting out, while the big one has focused mostly on the greater community and what everyone else is doing (guides, tips, examples, libraries, etc)
I would like to use this to grow my audience further for future launches. Some options i'm considering
• sunsetting my personal newsletter and sending everyone to the big one (expect big churn but nothing irrecoverable)
• running both in parallel, giving myself fair treatment for general content but still use it for launches when the time comes (more work, subs are likely less qualified leads for me)

[2023-08-01 04:17:53 PM] : Assuming it’s not a huge change in content, why not hidden option C and merge them into one (with some clear communication about what’s going on), and let folks unsubscribe if it’s not what they want?
[2023-08-01 04:19:01 PM] : Meaning forcibly subscribe folks from my little one to the big one? Not entirely opposed to that, I’m just super cautious around mailing list consent
[2023-08-01 04:20:54 PM] : You’re still the sender they (the little list) opted in to hear from. I’d def be cautious if it were the other direction (opting the big list folks into your list).
[2023-08-01 04:21:21 PM] : If it’s a big topic change, then I’d also think differently.
[2023-08-01 04:22:19 PM] : It’s very similar, just a wider bucket (what the whole Remix community has been doing vs what I’ve been up to with Remix)
[2023-08-01 04:22:25 PM] : But if it’s aligned, it’d be essentially a “rebrand” of your existing list, from the readers experience.
[2023-08-01 04:22:38 PM] : I see what you mean
[2023-08-01 04:23:30 PM] : I do like the sound of that
[2023-08-01 04:24:11 PM] : Possibility to segment the audience and send one from the new domain that still looks like my previous brand to my own list, so they’re onto it but it’s not so jarring
[2023-08-01 04:24:50 PM] : or do that for a brief period of time to help the transition. though honestly, i've seen enough newsletter rebrands that 99% of the time folks don't notice.
[2023-08-01 04:25:13 PM] : make the sender "Jacob Paris - Unofficial Remix Newsletter"
[2023-08-01 04:26:00 PM] : people transition and rebrand all the time.
[2023-08-01 04:26:08 PM] : don't make it harder than it needs to be
[2023-08-01 04:26:26 PM] : Ok thanks, this gives me some extra confidence
[2023-08-01 04:26:54 PM] : how long has the bigger list been inactive?
[2023-08-01 04:27:16 PM] : About 6 months, I’d expect some churn
[2023-08-01 04:27:35 PM] : It ran monthly for 15 issues prior to that
[2023-08-01 05:13:51 PM] : some churn yeah, but I'd bet it's less than whatever you're thinking.
[2023-08-19 10:24:13 PM] : > some churn yeah, but I'd bet it's less than whatever you're thinking.
Followup: yes, several dozen times less than what I was thinking [File hidden by Slack limit]
