[2023-10-10 12:02:42 PM] : I'm interested in perspectives of whether this is a good or bad idea. Currently there's no “list of people who do what I do”, and finding agencies or consultants relies on search results or word of mouth. Sometimes I see this is an unmet need of people asking for recommendations. Is making and hosting a list of people and companies who do what I do a good idea? On one hand, I can see the benefit of owning that is immense. On the other, it does mean my website has a list of competitors on it.

[2023-10-10 12:43:03 PM] : what % of the market are you? and is the main decision for potential customers "do it at all" or "who should do it"? [2023-10-10 12:44:32 PM] : I'm very low % of the market for this kind of work, especially against agencies. And I think the need here is “who should do it”. Although convincing teams to do it is another challenge that I E-bomb on [2023-10-10 12:45:11 PM] : However my website gets a lot of traffic, so I have oversized visibility for the amount of work I get [2023-10-10 12:49:13 PM] : in my experience, there's no actual downside to doing something like this, and if anything, it positions your confidence positively [2023-10-10 12:49:40 PM] : That's helpful, thanks. I see how it could be perceived as honest, which is good! [2023-10-10 12:50:02 PM] : bingo [2023-10-10 01:12:10 PM] : More thinking. One challenge is “after making the list, readers will want to know who is good vs bad, and I don't know how to fairly understand and represent that”. But there's also an opportunity here. I could interview people who buy these services, which is valuable for me (and usually hard to convince people to do, but here can be positioned as a social good). And that could inspire the criteria to capture and represent [2023-10-10 01:13:19 PM] : I'd say that it's probably not the best use of your skills/understanding to evaluate people that way [2023-10-10 01:13:36 PM] : Ah interesting. [2023-10-10 01:14:19 PM] : Is “here's just a list of options” good enough as a resource? Not sure about ways of helping the reader assess who to work with [2023-10-10 01:14:44 PM] : i'd provide information and context, and maybe even tips for guiding people to make their own decisions. [2023-10-10 01:14:57 PM] : "how do I know who to hire?" is a pain point, and therefore at least one ebomb. [2023-10-10 01:15:32 PM] : curation comes with some inherent judgement - aka who goes on the list, who doesn't. [2023-10-10 01:16:22 PM] : I'd make that criteria as objective as possible unless you have a specific goal or strategy for subjective judgement, and are ready to defend it  [2023-10-10 01:16:33 PM] : Yeah - potentially some awkward conversations ahead [2023-10-10 01:17:18 PM] : but presenting it as a list of research that you maintain, that's valuable [2023-10-10 01:17:28 PM] : and sharing the skills for how to choose/hire, also very valuable [2023-10-10 01:17:34 PM] : two ebombs that go great together! [2023-10-10 01:17:52 PM] : Amazing inspiration, thank you! [2023-10-10 01:19:17 PM] : First instinct about criteria for inclusion - you can provide two testimonials from clients. Potentially not for me to share, but helps enforce a degree of seriousness from people wanting to be on a list [2023-10-10 01:19:49 PM] : Great idea. Win win.
