Hey, do you guys kno

[2024-02-19 02:45:52 PM] : Hey, do you guys know if twitter reduces your reach for a post if you share an external link? There's a hootsuite article from '21 suggesting that the impact is minor. But can't find anything more recent.

[2024-02-19 03:17:47 PM] : I don't have anything concrete to share, but my understanding is that yes including a link heavily reduces reach. I'm stubborn and still include links, but I have a few friends who have switched to including a link in a thread and they said they've noticed a big difference. [2024-02-19 03:58:21 PM] : Hmmm, interesting. Okay, perhaps I'll try that for a bit and see how it goes. I also heard long form posts perform better than threads since they're a paid feature So perhaps the answer is have a short thread that starts with a long form post and end it with a link [2024-02-19 03:58:50 PM] : I guess the other alternative is have a link to your blog in your bio and post good content without links. Have people investigate you and discover your content through that link [2024-02-19 03:59:22 PM] : Personally, I really dislike the "link in thread" game, so I prefer to post authentically even if it minimizes reach. Like I said, I'm stubborn though :slightly_smiling_face: [2024-02-19 04:00:24 PM] : That's fair: Long terms relationships with the audience vs trying to trick the algorithm short term is probably a great strategy [2024-02-20 04:13:30 PM] : X wants to own the content, not send users off to some other website to read. Same as we are trying to do, I suppose. [2024-02-21 06:14:32 AM] : I've never seen compelling evidence that twitter actually suppresses posts with links, thinking it's more an incidental thing: when people click a link, they're less likely to engage in other ways on the tweet, which will naturally reduce reach [2024-02-21 06:15:38 AM] : Under that theory, your tweets can either optimize for converting well on twitter (no link) or for converting well to your website (with link) [2024-02-21 01:34:07 PM] : i ran across this the other day https://x.com/t3dotgg/status/1745551666387317034 [2024-02-21 01:36:40 PM] : He didn't control for actual clickthrough to Youtube though, so no way to tell if any of the links in the reply actually got clicked [2024-02-21 01:44:31 PM] : hmm yep, interesting [2024-02-21 01:49:18 PM] : Anecdotally my gut feel is that tweets with links seem to do worse than they used to. It would make sense if that happens “organically” as links lead to fewer interactions & therefore reach, but I also suspect that factor has changed since a few years back. But this is combined with me not tweeting much, having a mix of target audiences, etc. too [2024-02-22 08:34:49 AM] : Anecdotally, I almost never see tweets with links in them anymore. It's all either regurgitated wisdom from influencer "gurus", memes, or MRR bragging. [2024-02-22 08:58:17 AM] : Anecdotally, my link posts perform as good or better than my non-link posts (though I've gotten basically all my followers from sharing ebombs so that is what people are here for) https://twitter.com/search?q=from%3Ajacobmparis%20jacobparis.com&src=typed_query&f=top [2024-02-22 09:06:22 AM] : wow, nice! [2024-02-22 09:08:35 AM] : that’s great!
