small and hopefully

[2024-03-05 09:57:57 AM] : small and hopefully interesting update on my work: about 10 months ago i started a (free) snail mail programming newsletter. due to postage costs i recently switched it to a paid newsletter, $50/year. so far i only have 6 paid subscribers but the fee certainly covers the postage! and as an added bonus, idk if i’m the first programmer in history to make money from a snail mail programming newsletter, but it’s obviously not common, and there’s something satisfying about treading such an unworn path.

[2024-03-05 10:21:32 AM] : there used to be print magazines, at a minimum. some of them came with floppies with game demos and freeware [2024-03-05 10:21:57 AM] : oh yeah, that’s true [2024-03-05 10:22:05 AM] : i guess what i’m doing isn’t THAT original [2024-03-05 10:22:43 AM] : it's probably quite rare these days though! [2024-03-05 10:28:30 AM] : To be fair, those print IT magazines of times past (I'm just barely old enough to remember seeing printed source code in a magazin as a kid) did it mainly because they had no other choice. So you might still be the first to do it with a specific purpose. :) [2024-03-06 06:00:15 AM] : Snail mail means physical letters? [2024-03-06 07:51:00 AM] : yes sir! [2024-03-06 08:21:47 AM] : Wow. I'd never would have thought of going in that direction. May I ask what triggered this? [2024-03-06 02:51:28 PM] : the genesis of it was i just wanted a good way to keep in touch with people [2024-03-07 11:02:19 AM] : i love it
