Orca Issues

Hey guys, I had a quick question for you. I just got done installing Bazzite on my Ally yX tonight, and everything seems to be working pretty well. The one thing I'm confused about is that I was planning on using Orca with this distribution, and I was happy to see that Orca did in fact launch after doing the hotkey to open it up. I'm coming from a 20-plus year long Windows user experience here, so pardon me if this is silly, but I tried to hold down the super key and press D, which should be, from what I understand, the hotkey to go to the desktop. I exited out of game mode and got to the desktop with the help of my sighted girlfriend, and then at that point is when I did the hotkey for Orca to load up. It loaded just fine, but it seems like when I'm on the desktop, I'm not really getting any speech feedback. If I press the super key once and I start to type, it does look like it performs the search as usual, and occasionally I am able to tab and shift tab to other elements on the screen as well, but not always. I was just wondering, are there any settings I can adjust to make Orca perform a little bit better with the Bazlite install I have here? For reference, I'm using the GNOME edition of Bazlite instead of KDE, because I figured accessibility would be a little bit better on the GNOME edition. Thank you so much.

Apologies for any strange typos, I’m using dictation for this post.
