Need advice for an interview

Hello, I'm in my early 30's and I've got an interview for a tech job that I really want to nail. I'd love some advice on what to wear

for the interview, at minimum you'll want chinos and a nice dress shirt, belt and shoes. if it's in your budget, I'd also suggest a jacket and tie. can't go wrong with the basic navy jacket, white shirt, red tie look

I'm definitely with you on the start - I'm a bit afraid of doing a bit too much with a jacket + tie as well

whats the position? jacket & tie would be way overdressed for most tech jobs below exec.

for day to day, I'd agree, but you typically want to dress nicer for the interview

this is such a meaningless distinction in 99% of tech jobs im sorry

to most people a blazer/sport coat looks the same as any suit jacket

idk, I've had a couple tech jobs and both the people that hired me later told me this is the kind of stuff they like to see at minimum. one of them definitely liked if you were more stylish and remembered you more, but that was the basics

depends on the company culture but at some tech jobs, dressing up that much for an interview could be viewed negatively

It's a small company, but it's been established for a while

i was at a telecomm company and a mortgage company so they'll skew more conservative

yeah also i mean just personally, if you feel overdressed it will add stress to an already stressful thing. you want to look good but being comfortable in the clothes also will help you be more confidant for sure

Thankfully, this is the 3rd interview for a remote position first in-person

Honestly this would be perfect At this point in the interview process your fit isnt going to be make it or break it, especially for stack. A collared shirt (like the above, or a polo) and some chinos will be the move IMO

where is the job? san diego is a different vibe than ny. i interviewed a lot of swes in ny and even at startups most had at least a collared shirt, and not a polo. some dudes showed up in band tshirts or whatever and it generally wasn’t looked at favorably. agreed that jacket and tie is overdoing it unless it’s obvious that you dress like that all the time and are most comfortable that way. go with what you put in the picture. you’re gonna be great.
