Issues with the mobile apps
Hi there, I’ve been trialling and playing around with Immich and I’m pretty impressed. It still needs a bit more polish to pass the WAF but it’s good enough for now that I’m confident in keeping it up and regularly syncing photos to it.
Setup;
I’m hosting it via the TrueNas Scale community app thing since my main bulk storage is a TrueNas server.
I successfully run it behind Nginx Proxy Manager and have 2 different URLs, one for internal LAN and one for external access.
I initially seeded my library with a google photos takeout which got the majority of the images and videos.
I am now using the iCloud-photo-downloaded project to perform on-going syncing.

Issues discovered so far:
- The reason I’m using this convoluted sync method is 2 fold; on the android side of things it doesn’t integrate into Google Photos and only displays albums on device which means I cannot sync images taken from my iPhone and backed up to google photos, on the iOS side syncing is a bit iffy and doesn’t always bring across the original sized photos
- Since I’ve been actively experimenting with adding photos and videos, I’ve noticed that when I sync from iOS it usually gets the lower quality version of assets and if I clean it up on the web end by running the duplicate tool, those assets are still viewable on the timeline of the iOS app. The only thing that seems to clean it and force a “sync” of the timeline is to log out and log back into the app
- The biggest issue by far seems to be that the iOS mobile app (and probably the android one too but I can’t test at the moment) doesn’t seem to like to connect to my external URL. External access is via a cloudflare proxy so technically it is double proxied: Cloudflare proxy > Nginx Proxy Manager > Immich. However Immich does work externally in the browser so I’m not sure what’s so special about the iOS app
