Help with #Witcher3 needed
Good Morning all. Thanks so much for your kind assistance.
I just installed Ubuntu (from Windows) and I am pretty rubbish with computers in general.
I have installed the Witcher 3. When I try to run it in the Heroic / GOG launcher, it seems like it will load for a few seconds, then the "play" button is selectable again, and it seems like nothing has happened.
I understand that trying to run it in the command prompt might help (but I don't know how to do that). Can you kindly assist??
Launching "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition" (gog)

To help you, we need a game log. Please see the following images on how to get it.

Wine-GE is rather old now (last release is almost a year ago) and thus might not work correctly. Please follow these instructions on using GE-Proton:
1. Head to the Wine Manager in Heroic, click the "Proton-GE" tab, and install "Proton-GE-Latest"
2. Head to the settings for your game(s) (icon on game card in library). In the "Wine Version" dropdown, select "Proton - Proton-GE-latest"
3. Rename your Wineprefix (path is shown in game settings), e.g. from
current-name
to current-name_bak
. To clarify: Rename the actual folder on your hard drive, do not change the option in the game settings.
Note: This will make game-specific configuration data (e.g. in-game settings or save files) unavailable. If this is an issue, let us know & we'll help you restore them.gradual-turquoiseOP•3mo ago
Hi @GoldenGem thanks so much for your help. I have renamed the folder on the hard drive, as per the below. Still doesn't seem to load the game. Have I done something wrong? Thanks so much my friend!!

always share a new log after something you tried didn't work

thanks buddy, please see the .txt
You're still using Wine-GE there

and don't change the winePrefix setting to point to the
_bak
folder, leave it as /home/limepickle/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt - Complete Edition
and heroic will create a new prefixgradual-turquoiseOP•3mo ago
sorry buddy what should I use? (I am a potato)

ooof. 1 step forward, 2 steps back. Games were all working thanks to your advice (switching from WINE to PROTON). However yesterday I stupidly removed a partitian and had to reinstall Ubuntu from scratch. Smooth. I am now getting a new error messaging when trying to run games from Heroic Launcher. I am now getting this error message, when running all games from Heroic... Log also attached. Guys, THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!

Head to the game settings for your affected game, then check & un-check the "Disable umu" option in the "Advanced" tab
Note that Heroic 2.17.2 will be released soon and resolves this issue
