Server runs on slow uplink, what's the experience with outposts?
My home server has low upload speed (as in <500 kbps). I'm currently looking into setting up varnish as web proxy on a vps. Varnish will act as a 'faster' front for the webserver due to media caching.
Did anyone else go for the same approach towards an ~"immich outpost", why not? In the specific case of varnish, are there good/useful configuration templates posted somewhere I can base my own from? (Varnish is very flexible, currently going through all the docs but currently feel lost at where to begin)

You'd be better off installing immich on the vps (with thumbnails) and keeping the original files on your local server
Not sure a vps will really help you with varnish
so you mean symlinking off-host storage into the immich state directory for all non-cache data (library folder). i'm thinking about it, are there obvious upsides to this approach versus others?
Not symlink, like a NFS mount
