Error Message On Every Single Game

Ever since Heroic released their updates, I've been unable to play any of my games. I keep getting a WIne C++ Runtime error, and nothing seems to be fixing it. I ended up deleting my entire library and reinstalled them all from scratch (which took me all day), and they still won't work!! I also tried checking and unchecking "Disable UMU" and "Use Steam Runtime" (since it is commonly suggested), but it still doesn't work. It doesn't seem to matter which version of WINE I use, because I've tried using the latest version of Proton, and the Experimental, and just the straight version of WINE (latest), and I just keep getting the same message.

It worked, but do I have to do this 500 more times with every other game giving me the same problem? If so, this is seriously making me want to move back to Windows.

the only issue related to that in the latest release is the problem where people have to check/uncheck the disable umudisable umu option, I don't know why your prefix broke and recreating it fixed it

make sure to do the check/uncheck of the disable umudisable umu option before running another game and I think that should be enough

the next release of heroic will fix that checkbox issue but I don't know why the prefix itself broke

I appreicate the help, but it only fixed the issue for that exact game. It still happens to 99% of my other games. Does this mean that I'll have to apply this fix to literally every single game in my library?

This fix also doesn't work all the time. Is there going to be an update soon, because this is really annoying. I don't know what happened, but my entire game library is completely broken.

I don't understand what broke your games, the only difference between 2.17.0 and 2.17.1 was that issue with checking and unchecking umu and that will be fixed in the next release

one thing you could do in the meantime is to downgrade to heroic 2.17.0 if that worked fine

Also, won't downgrading reset all of my games, so I'll have to reinstall or import tham all over again? That literally takes me an entire day of nonstop work to do that,.

downgrading shouldn't reset games nor settings, the settings folder is kepts the same way as when updating

I ended up going through every single game and switching it to Proton 10.4 and checking on and off Disable umu ... which took me over two hours to complete. It's incredibly frustrating that Heroic doesn't automate things like this, because it ends up taking a ton of time to fix. It's the same issue with finding previously installed games. Heroic doesn't allow you to bulk import your games, so you're forced to add every single game in your library one at a time, every time you reinstall your OS. I think I've spent at least 24 hours in total this week just trying to get my games to work. Frustrating to say the least.

I should note that I am incredibly grateful to all the people who help to develop the launcher. I just wish more efforts were focused on automation.

I think it's wrong to think not enough effort was put in any specific thing, that's what sound with your last sentence

a lot of effort is put everywhere and we all have really limited time, it's unfair and incorrect to think that something just needs more effortmore effort

I know you say you are grateful, but the last sentence doesn't reflect that, there's a lot of effort put in so many things and thinking we just didn't put enough effort on something is disrespectful for all the effort we have invested in general in everything else

time is finite, so doing something means not doing something else, and nobody is expected to do anything specific

Admittedly the better way to go about this would have just been to change those settings as you played those games.. and ensure the default setting was set for any new games you may install.

Also i suspect the bug that brought back the umu disable/enable issue from a prior heroic version is going to be resolved next release so.. until then its just a minor inconvenience... which is why i think it was better to just change the setting as you played the games ratehr than doing it to everything.. since eventually an update will come out ot resolve the issue
